I just thought of something and would like some opinions....

 

Why would one send out a std if you know you are not sending an invite? Isnt that like saying, we are getting married, but Im not inviting you!? lol

I would only send STD's to people that you are sending a formal invite to, even if you know they are not going to attend (you don't have to send them an invite if they decline)

I agree with Kerry. You could always send an email engagement/wedding announcement if you wanted to let people know that your engaged. I wouldn't send an STD if you are not planning on inviting them - it'll be confusing to them & they'll be disappointed when they find out that they are not in fact invited.

We sent std's only to those people that we were going to invite to the DW. Then we ended up finding out a bunch of them that weren't going to be coming with us, so we didn't send them a formal invite. This helped me out as I was making the invites, including the folder from a 12x12 cardstock sheet, so that was a little less work for me!!

I agree, you wouldn't send an STD to anyone you are not inviting to the wedding. Some sort of engagement or wedding anouncement would work better.
