Congratulations! I think with a destination wedding you can't 'expect' anyone to come, but you are just so appreciative if they can. That was our outlook on it. If there are a few key people that you both have to have there, then I would check with them to make sure they'll go. Other than that, I totally agree with the previous posters that it's hard to get a head count early on. Just decide where the two of you want to go and book it. Actually a destination wedding is so easy if you want it to be. I think the bride controls how much work she puts into it. It can be low stress and beautiful! Good luck!

Congrats on your engagement! You cracked me up about not wanting to plan your wedding much- since you do so much of that at work. That is so funny! This site is awesome and you will find everything you want to know and more! Let us know if you have any photography questions.

Best wishes,

Katie

welcome, i agree with the others, pick a destination and run with it, you will soon get an idea of numbers, or you could always send a card out saying this is what you planning and ask people to send back a possible response or not.. unless it's years down the track, most people know within a year whether they can afford to attend etc..

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I just want to say I would never "expect" anyone to come, but a couple of the places that I already inquired with (Rockhouse in Negril, Jamaica for example) has a minimum room requirement before booking. Since I don't expect anyone to come, but would be delighted if anyone came, that freaks me out that I have to meet a minimum # of rooms. Know what I mean?

I just got a little burned in a situation where a friend (not someone I am super close with) expected me to fly 3000 miles, use all my vacation, and spend $2000 for her wedding. She was mad when I explained it was simply beyond my means at the moment! I am glad for that experience since I hope it will make me a better bride. :)

I look forward to the many many many more lessons I have coming my way in this process!

Thanks again for the welcome!

Terra
