I don't want to use the resort photographer because I've heard the pics aren't that great & they are all posed pictures. However, my FI is freaking out at the cost of the one photog I found (8 hours - $3300), he doesn't think we'll ever look at the photos again & therefore doesn't want to put any $$ into it, which I disagree with. So - can anyone recommend some photographers that aren't over the top expensive but still do good work?

Thanks in advance!

I am using Martha Roque. We have her for about 9 hours total and she is spending the night at our resort with us. It is costing us about $1750 including the room for her and her assistant. Obviously her fee can change and she charges for travel, so depending where you need her to go her fee can change.

This bride used her recently and that is how I chose her. I loved her photos!

There are many good local photographers. Claudia Photo is the one I was planning on using (before I found one to fly in for cheap). But she might be about the same price (I was quoted 2200$ for I think 5 hours so for 8 hours it might be close to your price, or maybe at least a few hundred dollars less).

You can also look into flying somebody in. Look for a photogrpaher who hasn't done destination weddings who is willing to do it for free, only travel fees, many of them offer that. (In fact, see the add for Sweet Memories Photography in the column on the right!)

Alternatively, can you reduce the number of hours you need the photographer somewhat? Maybe 6 hours would be sufficient? It depends how much time is in between your ceremony and dinner, but maybe do like 1.5 hours before (getting ready, plus some alone shots and shots each with your bridal parties), half hour ceremony, one hour group shots, 1 hour couple alone, 2 hours dinner & reception or something like that. You can always ask family and friends to take a bunch of photos of later in the reception. Just a suggestion.

Hi! We're using Vanessa Vargas - we found out about her here on the forum. I love her style and she is fairly inexpensive. Check out her website Vanessa Vargas Photography She is also flexible and will make changes to her already existing packages. To cut down on our costs, we decided to only hire her for 3 1/2 hours - she won't be at the reception, but we figured that a lot of guests will be taking their own photos that we will be able to get copies of.

Good Luck!
