Laser hair removal?

I've read that before. Done a little research into it myself, and ya, evidently because of the pigment in our skin, it can leave dark spots or something. It sucks.

 

I actually heard SOMEthing being advertised on QVC that is supposed to be permanent hair removal. Only problem is, they were trying to fix my high def and doing stuff to the t.v. at the time (FH and FFIL) so I had no picture, just the sound and I didn't get the info on it. If I come across it again, I'll let you know. I wanted to do something with a few areas myself.

Its true about the pigmentation. I get laser done and there have been times that they would not do laser on me when I had a tan.

I know it sucks but think of it this way the place was honest with you and cared about your safety. If they did it you may have left with permant scarring and discoloration which is definately not what you want Im sure.

You should do some research I have heard that some lasers work with darker pigmentation. See if you can find more information about it and go speak with someone to see if this can/cannot work for you. GL

there is a special laser for people with darker skin. I know some girls who used that one because they were really tan. They told me once I was too tan for a treatment & I really can't get very tan. I had a bad laser hair removal experience. I was told I was a perfect candidate because my skin is so lite and my hair is dark. But, after 13 treatments I stopped & still have to shave.

Im still going to keep hope. I did some online research about laser and dark skin people. There is this one type of laser machine thats able to do dark skin. It looks like there is one place that has it. Sadly it is way in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Thats so far by train!

Its pretty pricey too. Normally its about $180 for 3 sessions under the arm or $2 per cm square. But I guess you get what you pay for.

 

Morgan, you went 13 times and you still had hair growing? OMG thats so long. Any other bad experiences?

i so want laser hair removal!! but i'm afraid what happened to morgan will happen to me. i have thick, dark hair. i'm scared i'll put all this money in and still have to buy damn razors

It works the other way, too. If you have light skin and light hair, the laser cannot pick up the difference in pigment to know what to go after. It worked great for me on underarms and bikini area, but after several (expensive) treatments on my legs, I still have hair. Much less, but I still need to shave. The best combo is very light skin and very dark hair.

I think everybody reacts differently to the laser treatments. Ive been doing it for 3 years and still have to shave not as often and there minimal hair left. I can honestly say Im completely happy with the results of my treatments. I was not expecting any miracles when I started and was so disgusted with being a slave to hair removal I figured what could it hurt. I think a lot of people go into it expecting hair to just disappear and facilities dont educate potential clients on the fact that hair growth after x amount of treatments is a possibility. Just my two cents.

Sorry to hear that! They probably didn't have the proper machine, they do need to have a specific laser to treat darker skin. I am brown skinned and I had the procedure done with no problems. I had a series of 3 treatments about 2 years ago. It was great! Some of the hair did grow back but not much and there is a considerable difference between the amount of hair I have now and what I had before. I did pay more than I wanted, but my dermatologist is awesome and I trusted him completely. My friend who is slightly darker than me also had the treatment with her dermatologist with no problems. I am actually thinking of getting a touch up and having the procedure done for my underarms. Just keep researching and you should be able to find someone with the proper equipment. Good Luck!

Has any of you guys had it done on your face? I am growing a dang beard! (okay not that bad) I can see it getting out of control within the next decade and really want to get rid of it.
