Tell me about your experiences with Bare Escentuals/Minerals

I have only used a few of their powder eye shadows, and absolutely love them. It is actually the same color on your eyelid as it looks in the container. I hate shadows that you buy, and it looks totally different. Since I love the shadows so much, I've thought about getting the starter kit. This thread had given me that little boost to actually do it. Thanks for posting this!

I love BE products! I have never been a person who ever liked to wear makeup except for a powder and mascara, and these products convinced me that I can wear eyeshadow and foundation and look and feel natural.

The foundation is so lightweight - I never wore foundation before because it felt heavy, too creamy and just gross on my skin. BE foundation is like a powder, but it doesn't dry out your skin.

There is a good foundation primer to use that helps minimize pores and control oil, if you have skin issues with that. They also have a good lip primer and eye primer. The eyeshadow colors are beautiful and blend seemlessly together for a natural look. I never wore eyeshadow before, and now I am addicted to it!!

Ebay is a good place to buy for less. Here is a good site that includes a list of color charts for BE colors, as well as a forum for tips, comments and suggestions.

Welcome to Mineral Madness!

I bought one of the starter foundation kits from Sephora (in-store) and liked it. Once I ran out of the "fairly light" foundation (light is too dark for me), I looked on eBay.

Be careful, because I bought mineral veil and the fairly light foundation (I tried to get the fair colour (even lighter than fairly light), but it kept selling out! So I got the next one down, the same colour I ran out of from the starter kit).

You know how if you swirl it around the lid a few times it kinda sticks to it and you have to get a tissue and clean the lid? Well the stuff off eBay did not stick!

The foundation was DARKER than I thought it was, and I couldn't tell the difference until after I used it (isn't that always the way!). It did stick a bit to the lid, but not as much as the starter kit stuff.

The mineral veil (from the same seller) did not have the same consistency as the original kit product. It did not stick at all to the lid, so it makes me wonder if it stayed on my skin at all.

This particular seller had a really good rating, but I'm not sure if I'll cheap out again on eBay. Love the product, but I'll order it right thru Sephora next time.

tara! i'm sorry i dont have any knowledge to add about the products, but i had to say you are so pretty! i've been guessing what you look like behind your sunglasses :)

and i dont think your face is too much lighter than your arms, etc, but also, if it were its better than those girls you see with too much on their face, so its darker than everything else! i'd rather the face be a shade or so lighter, makes us look younger :)

I don't think the shades are off at all. I use BE (have for years) & when I get darker in the summer, I just mix a bit of a darker shade in & voila! I will say, in the dead heat of summer out here, sometimes my face itches a bit, but it's nothing that really bugs me enought to switch back to a liquid.

As long as the shade matches your face and NOT your neck then you're good. I slather a ton of sunblock spf 30 on my face and chest and wear a visor, but only wear spf 20 or less on my body, so my face is always lighter than my body and my neck is much lighter than my face. So if your face and chest are the same shade and neck is lighter, just dust some bronzer or a bit of warmth powder on your neck to even things out. Otherwise, I think whatever you're wearing looks very natural. Finally, I can see the eyes!

  • 3 weeks later...

I had one of the worst break-outs ever when I first used it, at first I thought it was the brushes so I used my own which were always cleaned after each use but I had to quit after a week.

Some of my friends love it. I have really sensitive skin so now I stay away from any "natural minerals" make-up products. Hope it works for you but you'll only know if you try it.

I bought the powder eyeliner this week & I really like it. Eyeliner irritates my eyes if I wear it too long, but this didn't at all.

I was reading this little card that came with a sample & only some of the shades have zinc in them. The fairly light doesnt but the light does. could that be why people have mixed results?

tara, in that picture i think the difference is because you face is closer to the flash. I wore bare minerals at my wedding & didn't notice any weird reflecting in any of the pictures. I was wearing the light one that does have zinc.

at my brother's wedding there is a picture where my face looks white, but the photographer had his flash way up. he made mike's face pretty white too & he isn't wearing bare minerals.

I've been using BE for about 5 years and like it a lot. It's not perfect, but I LOVE how it feels on! And, it really has helped improve the clarity of my sensitive, break-out prone skin. I haven't tried the Raw Minerals yet because the reviews seem so mixed and it's quite expensive.

i originally said on this post that it never made me break out but i'm taking back what i said. I am very careful now to make sure i remove it every night and i've been breaking out and staying broken out. i have changed nothing else (eating, sleeping, working, working out, make-up, etc) since. I was starting to notice small bumps on my face when i wrote the first post but figured it was just random. My skin has been prone to break outs, not even as a teenager or around that time of the month. my skin also never used to be sensitive until the last few years or so. BM does not make my pores look large or anything like that, just the break outs now. sad.gif
