BE AWARE: An instant BUDGET BLOWER....any ideas?

We've made it really clear that if they come and stay at another resort they pay the day pass fee.

We chose this hotel specifically because it was kid orientated and a reasonable price, also kids free if there are only 2 of them!, best man decided he was staying somewhere else so he's pay the fee.

We've made it clear to everyone we are paying for their meals it isn't free - everyone has said fair enough

Hi there

We did the same as Danielle. We gave people our wedding and resort information out and when a few people inquired about staying at a different hotel we did notify them that our hotel would require for them to pay for a day pass to attend the wedding as it is an all inclusive resort and this is their rules. People seemed to understand that the wedding was expensive for us and that we also had to pay for six immediate family members trips (two of us and our children) so didn't expect us to pay for additional expenses. In the end everyone decided to stay at the hotel ... however I think paying for the day pass might have been a factor (not sure).

Not sure if this is fair or not but we are on a very tight budget and couldn't afford paying the additional costs. People seemed to be understanding and supportive.

Yeeeouch!!! girl_werewolf.gif

Luckily our resort is only charging $25 for each person who is not staying there to come to the wedding and to dinner...

I should talk to FI about this again though and I think I'll put our decision up on our webpage...

Crappy! There doesn't seem like any 'gracious' way around it.

I picked a 5 star all-inclusive for my wedding. My dad had brought up that some family member had time shares in the area, would probably stay there to save money. Some friends told me the same. When it came down to it, we negotiated such a good deal with our resort that it was hard to pass up staying with us. There were still a small handful of people that didn't stay at ours but we payed for them. They are our guests and traveled a long way to celebrate with us. That's like, if we were getting married in our hometown and they stayed with a relative or friend to save money instead of our designated hotel, I wouldn't make them pay for their own dinner. It ended up being a smaller fee than the day pass so the damage was not as bad as expected. I'm sure you can negotiate that, too.

I have a similar issue as you. My fiance's father has a time share in Cancun is planning to stay there with his wife. I have no problem paying the $85 per person for them but now his Dad has invited all the aunts and uncles to stay there too. These are aunts and uncles that were not even going to be invited to the wedding! Supposedly, my fiance is going to call his Dad and explain the deal with the day passes but I have a feeling he is going to chicken out. We shall see!

We have been encountering the same issue, with some of our guests wanting to use their timeshares. We were up front with them and also posted it on our website, saying that because it is an all-inclusive resort, the resort charges any guests prefering to stay at another resort a $100 day fee on the day of the wedding. I think it would also depend on how many people are planning on staying off the resort.

we wrote in out std brochure that there are tons of hotels in pv, but this is where we're staying, and should you choose to stay elsewhere, there's a fee. everyone wound up staying w/ us, but 1 or 2 not, we would have paid. if there were more, we would not have.

have you told your guests that you'd pay? if not, make it clear that you won't, and maybe they'll be more likely to choose your hotel!

We told our guests (finace's dad and stepmother) that if they stay off the resort they have to pay a guest pass fee. His brother and sister who would have stayed with them might get upset, because I am sure they are going to want to hang out with everyone at our resort, something to consider telling them... that if they wish to come another day, it is another pass.... stinks I know

At first, we thought that we might run into this problem since Beaches is $$ compared to alot of other places. We have a few friends that do not have kids nor really want to be shacked up with a bunch of them around. Beaches is 85 a day. Lucky for us Sandals Negril is only like a 5 min walk on the beach and since it is owned together we now have no day pass problems. We can switch between the 2 as much as we want. Having some stay at Sandals made it for our guests since without it .. it would have been only immediate family and not our friends too.
