Cuba or Bust

Well I am also getting married in Cuba but not on the main island I am getting married on a small island south of the main island called Cayo Largo. We will be getting married around the same time you will the beginning of Feb (Feb 4, 2009).

My fiance and I have been to this resort twice before and loved it. It has white sandy beaches, very much a rest and relaxation place, great food, swim up bar and so much more. It is very romantic...

Not sure if you are interested but the weddings are cheap...ours is free since we have over 25 people coming but you can get the best package for $900.00.

Here is the site for their hotels...they have others on the mainland as well...take a look you may like them!

Sol Melia Wedding in Cuba. Wedding planning, Wedding reception. (we are at the Sol Cayo Largo)

Good Luck...

I have picked Holguin for my wedding on Dec 29th. My agent said it would be a bit warmer than Veradero as it is further south.
Good luck with planning.
Hi ladies,

Yes, I shot two weddings in PRDO and one at the Playa Pesquero in Holguin and I stayed at both resorts. If anyone has any questions do not hesitate to pm me.

I am also in the process of booking two weddings there in May 2009.

We're getting married at the Playa Pesquero in Hoguin on January 19th, 2009. We're bringing a photographer from home and I think he's really good. He's giving us a really good deal as well. You can check out his website at

The Photography of Dan Harper - Who?

We might be interested in sharing him, I guess that is, if he's into doing more than one wedding.

Thanks for all your helpful replies ladies!

VariaStudio, your photos look amazing. If you hear of another bride who is looking to go to Holguin/Santa Clara during late Jan/Feb 2009, please let me know. I would love to do a share. Since we are topping up the trip costs of our guests, we are going to have to keep photography costs down, but if I could afford it, I would book you right now.

TeacherBride, thanks for the offer. Unfortunately, my FH's brother isn't available to travel for the wedding until Jan 22nd or later so it looks like we will be booking for the week after you.

CayoLargo, thanks for the link to your resort. I am going to take a look. As I said, we are dead set on Cuba, but otherwise open.

I think that we have settled on not Varadero for our location. We decided that the R&R and some time together is just what our group is looking for. However, we still haven't booked so I am getting a bit scared. I guess we just have to make the call as to whether our dream resort is a bit too pricey or not. To make matters more complicated, our second choice resort has

a far more pricey wedding package (about $1200) than our first choice (about $450) which makes it far more attractive just to top our guests up that much further to go for PRDO. Argh, I am procrastinating to the extreme. Thanks for keeping me sane, gals.

If it helps you at all, the initial wedding quote we got for the ceremony at Playa Pesquero was quite high but when we clarified that we only wanted a symbolic ceremony the price came down to $300. Also, the reception (we chose the beach bbq) is only costing $35 CUC per person. We found this to be really reasonable.

If you need any more info on this resort, I should still have most of it in my email account.

Good luck with your choosing, I hope you're able to get the destination of your dreams!

If you want some R&R I would suggest Santa Clara, they have only 3 resorts at the moment, the fourth opening in November. It is about 90 minutes from Santa Maria international airport (don't let the name fool you, it is SMALL) But most people that have visited loved it. if you have facebook, go take a peak at the Melia Las Dunas Brides group (that is where we are getting married) . IT IS GORGEOUS!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
