Oahu Wedding

Cabo - A

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

So my name reads Cabo - A because that's where we were originally getting married at. But after long discussion and too many people's input (you know how that goes), we've decided to just run off to Hawaii!!! I've booked with Above Heaven's Gate: Hawaii Weddings,Hawaii Wedding,Maui Weddings,Weddings in Hawaii,Maui Wedding,Hawaiian Weddings,Hawaii Beach Wedding

The beach called Angels Bay is where we will be getting married! Has anyone heard about this company? From what I've read, this company was the first to start doing Hawaiian weddings and all I've heard is great stuff. Plus the photography is to die for! Honestly, that's what sold me. You can visit the website to view weddings...they are breathtaking. And there are numerous locations Rev./Capt. Howies performs ceremonies at. Rev./Capt. Howie is a non-denominational minister and Maritime Captain.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to our wedding and I'll be sure to give a review. The wedding isn't until December but I know the time will fly by fast!

OMG! Capt. Howie's is awesome! You're right about the photography, it's beautiful. I wish he did weddings in Kauai... I could almost reconsider and move it to Oahu after viewing that website. I did google "capt. howie" and "reviews" and found this link:The Reluctant Critic Blog Archive Hawaiian Wedding / Honeymoon

it definitely gives a different perspectiveundecided.gif

Pukilani Falls is on the land where the owner of this company lives. One of the attractions is his own home (the hobbit house).

Here's some comments I found when searching for info:

We get asked about Pukalani Falls from time to time and we don't recommend the site nor can we use the site. Here's the deal from our point of view: The owner's are very, very nice, aloha filled people that we respect and wish no ill will towards. The owner built "Pukalani Falls" in the backyard of his own private residence. It is not, nor has ever been, a real natural Hawaiian waterfall. It's pretty but completely fake. The "Hobbit House" is very interesting looking from the outside but not a luxury mansion or private highend estate by any means but rather is located within a very basic/average residential area with lots of other small houses around. We have called and asked about using the site and they said at the time they do charge a site fee to use the falls and they do not permit outside companies in to prevent it from becoming to "commericial" which is completely there right to do. This means if you want to use the site you have to use them for your services. The feedback we've heard about the site has been mixed. However, we feel that if a person is going to travel all the way to Hawaii to get married by a Hawaiian waterfall that they might not want it to be next to a man made waterfall in some guys backyard. Again, the owners are nice and the site is pretty. To us, it comes down to do you want a real, natural watefall that's over 50ft tall in the heart of botonical garden or do you want a fake one in some guys backyard? It's up to you. Again, the owner's are very nice and the site is lovely. It's private because his lawn has a fence around it but it's fake. You decide.
I don't have any info of this wedding planner's company, so my suggestion would just be to check everything out thoroughly before signing anything.

I'm sure your wedding will be beautiful. You cannot go wrong with Oahu!

Hello,

Here I am about to give my "input" too :-). I higly suggest doing a site visit. A wedding is once in a lifetime and choosing the right venue is such a critical decision. It will be best to base your decision not from pictures on the internet or even another person's recommendation but based on your own. Just my two cents.

I have heard of the place and I have looked at it (pix on the internet) since we are also having a legal ceremony in Oahu but for me, I would prefer a natural waterfall. Here are other suggestions:

Anela Gardens - very beautiful setting with gazebo, mansion (for receptions), garden and chapel!

Haiku Gardens

Moli'i Gardens

Do a google search on these gardens and so you have different options before you make a decision.

Hi Cabo-A!

I am also getting married & have booked with Above Heaven's Gate! I was reluctant at first, but like you, there seemed like so many positive things about this company & gorgeous photography. There also seemed to be so many positive comments (a few weird ones too), but I hope it all goes well! Our wedding isn't until March '09, will you PLEASE do me a favor & let me know how it all works out for you? I would love some honest feedback about them & how it all goes for you! My email is [email protected]. Any feedback (even about the planning stages) would be great!

Pukalani Falls is a man-made waterfall on Captain Howie's home. It really isn't that big, but you can't tell in the pictures. The house is really beautiful and is built for his wedding business. I believe Angels Bay is what they named Waimanalo Bay. Excellent beach for a wedding, but it is not private and can get busy with other weddings. Howie's house in right across the street from the entrance to the beach. Many people use this company, and are very satisfied with what they get. But please note that there are more than one photographer and one of them just left.

Great for small wedding parties, but it's not for everyone. If you're looking for a resort type wedding, this isn't it. But if you're looking for a short small intimate ceremony only wedding, than this might be for you. If you have any questions, let me know and I'll be happy to help!
