I have been all over the world and Vancouver is my favorite city. It's such a beautiful city. I like the village up in Whistler, but I'm not a big resort type of person. Too many people and too much going on for me to relax. I've always preferred local spots to big tourist areas. This is why I'm getting married at a nice quiet hotel in Akumal instead of busy touristy areas of Mexico. So if you go to Vancouver I suggest checking out Grouse Mountain. And check out a hockey game... a lot of fun (but I'm a huge Canucks fan). And head downtown and eat at Cactus Club Cafe... very cute fun little place w/ good food and drinks. You want anymore info let me know I used to fly up there every week for 3 days

Hi ladies, I live in Vancouver (well in New Westminster which is about 30 mins drive from Vancouver) and have been to Whistler many times. I head up there for a romantic weekend with my sweetie quite often, summer or winter. I DON'T ski (I know, shame on me for living here and not skiing), but I do ride a sport bike and enjoy the road very much between here and Whistler (Sea to Sky).

 

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about where to stay, where to eat, etc. Also, if you want to come to Vancouver, I can definitely tell you the best places to eat (I am a major foodie!).

 

Have a nice long weekend (haha for us in BC it's the BC Day long weekend, Monday is a holiday).

 

Oh... PS don't come to Vancouver/Whistler now though, the Sea to Sky highway is closed due to a rock slide near Porteau Cove (diving area inbetween the two cities). It's been closed since Tuesday night and isn't scheduled to re-open again until after the weekend. Very bad for those brides that had weddings scheduled for this weekend at the Furry Creek Golf Club (beautiful spot about 40 minutes North of Vancouver) on the Sea to Sky, no way to get there but go the long way around, about an 8 hour drive through the Valley and down through Whistler.

I'm a Vancouver girl too - it sounds so funny when people talk about coming here for their honeymoon. When FH and I talk about the places we want to go to, we forget that we live somewhere that other people come to!

 

If you're staying in Whistler for a couple days, then I would highly recommend looking into renting a townhouse. There are TONS of them to rent. The advantage to this is you get your own kitchen - and a lot of them have private hot tubs. Whistler is where we always go for stags/stagettes - this year alone between the two of us we've been up for 8 weekends. And it definitely adds up. So if you can do your own breakfast/lunch then you'll save a bundle. Since the drive to Whistler is considered 'dangerous' (don't worry, as long as you're not driving like a speed demon it's fine) all goods - food included - cost more up there.

 

If you're flying into Vancouver, there are shuttles as well as a train that runs up to Whistler if you don't want to drive up there. The actually village of Whistler is closed for cars (just walking) so you don't need a car once you get up there (unless you're staying on the outskirts of town).
