Were you miserably HOT in your formal dress?

Recommended Posts

For those girls that got married on the beach in the Carribbean....

I was sure that I would end up getting an informal flowing chiffon gown for my beach wedding in Jamaica in January. However, I never found one that I liked on or felt like a bride in. I ended up with a silk taffeta dress with some crinolin and a chapel train. I was thinking about having the crinolin removed to make it lighter and shorten the train, but I also don't want to mess up the dress. Those of you that got married on the beach in a formal gown, were you absolutely miserable (temperature wise)? I guess of all the months January must be the coolest, right? Although by reviews I have read it is still HOT in Jamaica no matter what time of year! What are your thoughts? Thanks!

ok so i cant answer for jamaica, but it was 100 the day we got married in cabo, and i didnt wear the bra or underskirt that i used at our big wedding at home, i also snipped out the crinoline lining prior to leaving for mexico. i was SO comfortable this way. it was 75 the day of our home wedding, and i was so stinkin hot all evening, with all that junk on underneath the dress. i had a corset back, so that helped with not having a bra on, i just had it laced tighter in cabo than i did at home.

Abbie, did your dress still look as full without the crinoline?? Also, what material was your dress made out of? Mine is some sort of taffeta-like material, and it has layers of crinoline (from what I remember) underneath. They suggested I wear Spanx and a slip underneath, but I'm thinking of foregoing the Spanx, because those things are uncomfortable in everyday life!

I was hot in my dress (duchess silk satin), but not unbearably. We were married at 4:30p, so that helped. We changed after dinner/cake into our TTD clothes and danced the night away like that.

The weather in January in Jamaica is hot. Everyday is different, but we were there for 3 weeks, and we really never had a 'cool' day. It was very comfortable in the morning, but by midday, it was HOT!

January 19th is a great day, BTW *wink*. I'm trying to swing an anniversary trip back to Jamaica!

oh yay, we have the same wedding day! Our ceremony will be about 11AM, so hopefully the sun is not in full force by then. I am sure I can survive the short ceremony, but we will be having our reception at Evita's right after and it is an open air restaurant so hopefully I won't be sweating the whole day.

Ok, thanks. Hmmm... I guess I will just discuss this with the seamstress when my dress comes in. I would love to have as little fabric as possible but definitely don't wanna lose the great shape of the dress.
