Those who flew a photographer in...

I agree that it really depends on the (DW) experience of the photographer. If you are hiring someone who is very well known the likelihood of getting a reduced rate is pretty low. However, there are always different variables to every situation.

I think it sounds like you are getting a good deal because you sound really happy with your photographer, and that's what it's all about! I think it's key that you get along well so that you feel comfortable the day of in front of their camera. Plus you've already seen her pics so you know her style and all that jazz.

I don't think it's uncommon for photogs to discount DWs to help brides out with expenses (I do)....and also, for me, to help brides avoid those awful resort employee "photographers." LOL. These are your precious memories after all and the thing that will remain with you after the cake has been eaten and the dress hung back up. :P

The other thing you want to watch out for are per print prices.. some photographers include high resolution digital images that you can have printed yourself (like in a photobook/or enlargements).. other more traditional photographers charge a fee per image to get prints. (That's one thing I noticed between some photographer's prices.)

Neither is better than the other but something to be aware of.

Yup, I will work just as hard wether the wedding is here in San Diego as I would if your wedding is in Hawaii or Rivera Maya.

I totally get offering discounts, I even gave a wedding away for Valentines Day just for the heck of it... For the more experienced photog in general, not a good chance of getting the discount.. they would almost rather stay home with the family or just not have to travel, they probably would book the date anyways...

Now where some of you might find a discount is the off season.. well here in San Diego there isn't really an off wedding season due to the weather being great year round, but if your photog lives in Boston, ha! not too many weddings in Boston Jan - March...

Yep, I agree Nic! it must be so nice not having a down season. The weather here in Montreal scares away many brides from the winter months. It's one thing worrying about rain, its another worrying about no one showing up because its impossible to drive on the roads.

So that's another reason why I will lower prices in the winter months, and why I'm giving away a free DW in February.
