The new Dreams Tulum thread! (Post all DT Qs&As here)

Recommended Posts

I emailed Francisco (the minister) a few months ago, he is really easy to work with I wanted to have direct contact with him since we are planning our own ceremony and he is very accommodating to this.

mckenziet - there really isn't any way for your guests to not know that your wedding isn't legal.  We aren't telling anyone that it's not so as far as they are concerned it is, besides it is your wedding day, signing papers at home before you leave isn't really your wedding, unless you want it to be.

Hi!

We got "married" at Dreams on 5/21 (we REALLY got married at home on 5/8 and no one knows- not even my parents)- its totally doable and worth it- it saved us some $.

This was the wording we used for our programs:

Right hand side of the program:

Ceremony

  • Opening Prayer
  • Welcome
  • 1st Reading (Mark 10:6-9) Institution of Marriage
  • Reflection on the scripture
  • 2nd Reading (1st Corinthians 13:4-8a) Love
  • Meditation on the reading
  • Prayer for the rings (your hearts)
  • Vows
  • Signing of the certificate
  • Presentation as Mr. and Mrs.

Please relax at the bar or go back to your room and freshen up!  Cocktail hour starts at 5:30 followed by dinner and dancing at 6:30.

Left hand side of the program:

First and foremost, we would like to thank our Parents- Your love and caring goes beyond any we have ever seen.  Who we have become, what we believe, and our ability to look towards a wonderful future together has all come from you.  You have blessed us in ways we cannot find words to express.  Through your lives you have given us all you could, and more.  Thank you so very much for making this day possible.  We could not be standing here without you.  Thank you for sharing this moment in time; one that will be the first of many, in our new life together.  We love you with all our hearts.

Dorothy Grace Peters/ Richard Donald Peters

Isabel Gallo/ Lawrence Anthony Gallo

For those loved ones who have gone before, especially Dorothy Kralick & Jerri Strang…We hold your memory close in our hearts today and always.  You are with us on our special day in spirit.

Thank you to our friends and family for sharing this special day with us.  Your presence here means so much to us.

I know I've been having a lot of blonde moments these days, and just want to clarify....the person that officiates the symbolic ceremony is a minister?

Also, did anyone do a "signing of the certificate" at their symbolic ceremony? Is this common? I just wonder b/c that would definitely help to make it look "real".

Ok ladies!! I need your advice...Fiance and I got into an argument yesterday regarding our destination wedding...he's in a bit of sticker shock with how much this is all going to cost us.  We have about 40 people coming to our wedding and we're going with the Ultimate Pkg, hiring an outside photographer and also hiring an outside DJ. With the number of people we have coming, we have to pay extra for the additional people over the 20 DT includes in this package.

He was thinking of just doing hors d oeurves after the ceremony and then everyone would be on their own for dinner, then we'd just meet at 10:00pm to dance the night away at the disco.  I, of course, would like to have a semi-traditional reception with the toasts, garter toss, bouquet toss, dancing, etc. I'm thinking the reception is a way to celebrate with your family and friends your new life together as husband and wife.  I told him that his idea is silly and that all of our family and friends traveled to DT for our wedding/vacation and it would be nice to have a nice family dinner/reception to all celebrate.  What do you think?

I totally agree with you on this one.  Your wedding is something you only do once in your life, and will be a lifelong memory.  If you both can afford to do it they way you both would like, I would say do it...you'll have no regrets then.  For me if people are willing to spend the money to come all the way to Mexico, I am willing to pay for a great reception!  Good luck, whatever you guys decide to do will be great.  When is your wedding?

We are getting married May 12, 2011.  I'd LOVE to save money, but you can't skimp on memories.  I want our guests to have a good time and really enjoy getting to each other.  I guess we can just hope we don't have more than 20 guests confirm.  We'll see!! Thanks, Maur!

I have to agree with you. I feel like if they have traveled all this way to celebrate with you then the least you can do is celebrate all together. We are doing the Ultimate package as well, outside DJ, and have 44 people attending. It is a little more expensive than we originally had expected..... but then I think about if we had the wedding here, and the hundreds that would be invited. WAY less expensive! I feel like the money we spend is to give us a 'private' party, and for me, that is worth it.

An 'organized dinner and reception' is a little more 'formal', I feel like if you just say "meet us at the Disco later" people may or may not show up. That's a long time in between.

Yes, I agree with all of you, as well. We will have about 45-50 people on Dec. 4, 2010, and are getting the Dreams of Love package. We are also paying an additional $850 to keep the reception open for an hour longer (since the package is for three hours, but the DJ i hired will be there for four), with wait service. Originally, I was going to try and do what other brides did, and just tell the servers to go away, and that we could get our own drinks from another nearby bar so we don't have to pay for that extra hour. But as I've read on here, it doesn't always work and it can be pretty stressful.

So it was worth it for me to pay the extra money so I don't have to stress about not knowing if we'll be charged or not, as well as having the extra service. If for some reason we HAD to shut down an hour early, it would've been so disappointing. I didn't want to take that chance, so now I am guaranteed a 4-hour reception!

Point being - it IS about memories, so I'm willing to pay a little more. In the grand scheme of things, this wedding will have been much cheaper than one at home in Chicago, AND it's the perfect amount of people that I can talk and hang out w/ each of them individually! I am estimating that the Dreams of Love package, along with set up, extra dinner, and extra hour for everyone, and my outside DJ and photographer will cost about $7,500.

Hi Barbiegirl- I am assuming that the person who officiates the symbolic ceremony is a minister- they didn't really give us a choice, Aurora just told us who was doing it.

We did have a signing of the certificate.  It was included, our parents came up and signed- it was a nice touch =)
