The new Dreams Tulum thread! (Post all DT Qs&As here)

I am reading the Wedding Guide for 2009 and I am confused: under Wedding in Paradise package it says "use of the wedding canopy." It says the same thing in the Ultimate package. But later in "Beach Ceremonies" it says "Gazebo is included only for Dreams of Love or Ultimate wedding package." What is "canopy" vs. "gazebo," does anyone know?

Yeah, that doesn't make sense. From my experience and what I've heard from others, the use of the gazebo is the same for all wedding packages (even the free package includes basic gazebo decor).

Thanks for your response SunBride. You're our resident Dreams Tulum expert :). I've asked for clarification, but I do hope we won't have to pay extra. Because we have only 10 guests it makes sense for us to get the free package and then pay for upgrades, such as the Gold Menu for 10, a bunch of boutonnieres, etc. So I'm not looking forward to paying extra to have something over our heads during the ceremony. (The specific wording is "All the packages include the basic set up with covered chairs for the guests and table for the judge or minister. Gazebo is included only for Dreams of Love or Ultimate wedding package otherwise it has extra charge.") blink.gif

In terms of lighting, they just use regular restaurant lighting, and for outdoor receptions they have outdoor floodlights. But if you want something more decorative or more ambient lighting (like paper lanterns) you should bring your own. They probably could provide them for you if you really wanted, but they will charge you a lot.

Choose items that are light and easy to pack.

If you use candles for an outdoor event (including seaside grill and el patio which are open restaurants) you need to have candle holders that are min a couple inches higher than the top of the candle to block the wind, otherwise they won't stay lit. I know this from personal experience.

Thanks for the lighting tips! Do you know if the resort has any glass candle holders or is that yet another item to be packed?!!

I can't say specifically about vases/candle holders, some people may have mentioned them in their review, but I think most people bring them.

In my opinion, DT offers a very good price for the basic stuff (i.e. the wedding packages) and you will get very good value for money if you stick with those, but a lot of the extra stuff is quite expensive, especially decor items like these. I think that is why most people bring them. Try to choose centerpieces that are easy to transport, and assuming you aren't having an enormous wedding, then just bring your own decorations. If you choose your decorations carefully you should be able to just fill 1 suitcase full (or less) depending on what you need. I had 2 suitcases just for decor items (one of them was half full of tulle, I brought way more than needed, also brought all my silk bouquets). Check into your luggage allowance and ask family members to pack stuff for you.

Sooo, girls my wedding is coming up so soon! October 10th will be here before I know it. That means pretty soon you girls will have another LONG review to read with plenty of pics!!

This question goes out to all the girls that did a TTD session, is there anywhere that we can walk on the beach to get more interesting pictures... or has anyone went into tulum town to get some pics... I know some girls did pictures at the ruins.... is there a way to walk to the tulum beach ruins or is access only through the entrance to the park?

Thank you girls!

I did my TTD on the beach near the resort. Just past the seaside grill is a great beach that is quiet and not very rocky when you get in. I think that Tricia tried to do hers at the ruins and they do not let you do this. There are a few Cenotes not too far from DT that you might want to check out also. I think Hidden Worlds is near there
