1. Going through Sandra, the group sales person, for booking rooms
2. The "Platinum Menu"... has anyone used this... it was offered as an upgrade if we signed a contract for rooms...
3. Photos of us at a ruin... any ruin... in our gown and suit. What do we do?
4. Top choices for reception locations? Does it really matter to book it private?

Thanks and congratulations to all of us!
Welcome to our thread! I'll add you to our bride list.

In terms of question 3, as Bianca said, wedding photography is not allowed at the ruins. I learned that the hard way sad.gif You can read about my experience in my review (I think it's one of the last things in my review). As said in my review you could sneak your way in by only putting on your wedding clothes when you get inside the ruins, but that is your risk (Laura, one of our other brides, did it and got fabulous photos!)

In terms of question 4, it's all a matter of personal preference. The seaside grill seems to be the most popular option I think. In terms of whether you go private or not I think it depends on if you want to do dancing and speeches. For those you'd want to go private but if it's just a dinner, than it's up to you whether you mind having strangers there (I personally would not mind, I would just consider it more as a dinner than as a formal reception). You have to decide what you want to get out of your reception. But read the new policy about the restaurants carefully because it has recently gotten much harder to book the restaurants privately.

My fiancee and all the guys are doing a fishing day with Capt Rick's as well. The best man was in the Mayan Riviera this past spring and went on Capt. Rick's and he said it was one of the best fishing expeditions he's been on. The size of boat depends on how may people will be going.
There is a picture of the convention center terrace on Page 2 of this thread (near the bottom of the page). You could probably fit a max of 50 fully covered (i.e. if you're using it as a rain location), and probably another 25 or so if you don't need to worry about staying away from the edges. It is a bit buggy over there, so if you use that location, I'd reco giving your guests Off wipes of setting up cintronella candles around the perimeter.

Did everyone but me know that cintronella candles ATTRACT bugs so you're supposed to light them and place it away from where you'll be hanging out so all the bugs stay near the candle, not your party? Sorry, totally random, but just found out :)

Thanks for the info about Captain Rick. I also read on another thread that Cancun Catamarans does great excursions, so I'm going to check prices with both of them and then make a decision. FYI - Capt Rick's told me that for a January excursion, we should book by/around mid-November...so 2-3 months in advance.

MadBride - I have the Platinum Menu if you want to PM me for it.

Neen - Thanks for all the info!! hope you had a fun pre-wedding trip :) How can I get in touch with Captain Rick for a fishing charter?

Thank you for the photog info...I had already emailed the address given for the resort photog but didn't find him to be very helpful. He actually tried to persuade me to book directly through him as oposed to waiting to do it at the resort. Anyone else experienced this? I will try to email him again for specific pricing and times.

Congrats SunBride! Well deserved!

Well...found a wedding video! woo!hoo!
Don't think the bride is on this forum but I figured we would all appreciate seeing another fellow DT bride tie the knot.

Here's the link.

oh, I was excited about a wedding video, but it's actually a picture slideshow. (As a side note, it's definitely recent seeing as I notice they copied my aisle & gazebo flowers)

It would be so great to get somebody's video from the resort videographer.

Anyways, here's another picture slideshow that was on youtube

Neen, you are so ahead of the game! Thanks a ton for all the info. I guess I need to get going with planning, I'm a bit behind! I'm getting nervous that I don't have it all together. I'm sure there are still beautiful places available for our cocktail hour, maybe around the pool? Any suggestions from other brides would be much appreciated!

Hi ladies,

Neen- Your Q&A with Landy was so helpful. I actually just sent Landy an email last week with about 4 of the questions that you posted. Since I have not heard back from her, it was good to get the answers from you.

Question: I have a beach ceremony planned but did not know that there were 2 spots to choose from (did not do a pre-trip). It sounds like the Southside of the beach next to SG is the way to go.

What confuses me is everyone seems to be having their reception at the Seaside Grill except I do not remember that being an option for the reception. I was told beach, patio terrace or Ballroom. Is the Seaside Grill Reception an extra charge or is this part of the package? I currently have my reception scheduled for the Patio Terrace but am now thinking of changing it to SG but am worried about extra charges.

Ladies, please advise!

You are the best!
