Hello Ladies!

Come January the planning will be full force! I had my girls over today for a "wedding planning party". It was so great to share everything I have learned from the thread and to also collaborate with 6 other girls at the same time who have gone through this!

Have a great holiday season!!

Lonna

The Best Review Ever.

I got married at DT last week. Here is my cruel and efficient review:

The Wedding Coordinator: Lizet works her ass off. She's very thorough but bad about responding to emails. After meeting her I realized why- she must work 18hrs a day 6 days a week getting stuff reading for DT Brides (and Grooms). We were nervous because we hadn't heard from her in a long time and we were leaving without knowing when we'd be meeting her. We got a nice envelope from her when we checked in with our appointment all setup.

She may not respond to your email but she has everything printed off in your wedding file. She took last-minute changes (like adding birthday cake for 36 people for the Welcome Dinner 24hrs ahead of time) in stride and really pulled them off. If you have Lizet you're in great and friendly hands. Relax- it took 30 minutes with her to plan everything out and have it turn out great.

The resort: Awesome. We had the Honeymoon suite (garden view?) #7311. Everything was perfect- nice towel animals, and excellent turndown for the wedding night. Food was delicious with small enough portions that you could guilt-free order appetizer, entree, and desert. My recommendation? World Cafe for breakfast, El Patio for lunch, and Hitmitsu for dinner. Seriously- the food was good. Really good. It pleased my very picky (very, very picky) family.

Some advice- bring 2x more tipping money than what you were planning to initially. The waitstaff there works very hard, speak very good English, and it shows how much they care. They don't make much in salary (confirmed with my co-worker in the states whose family owns a resort in Mexico) but they really go above and beyond to make you feel special and welcomed. Tip heavy and often. One food concern- don't get the papaya smoothie unless you want to finish some reading on the toilet. Fiber+natural muscle relaxant found in papaya= hilariousness.

Ride the bull on Mexican Fiesta Night. Totally worth it. I went 5 times and had a blast. Others didn't in our group and now live a shattered life filled with cowardice and regret.

For a really romantic and cool experience walk south of the resort on the beach until you get close to the closed/abandoned 4-story condo building (its very visible from the resort). Excellent sand, not many people, and rock/seaweed free swimming. Its a long walk (~30 minutes) but absolutely worth it.

Tours: Do "Emilo's Aquatic Expeditions" snorkeling tour. The tour consists of the same spots as the Mayan Snorkeling Adventure but since its a smaller, family run tour I felt good about giving them our patronage. Pepe was our guide and really did a great job. The city of Tulum wasn't anything to write home about but worth a stroll.

Wedding Advice: We brought Tulle for the seats and wedding arch. It looked nice but we bought the gauzy, thin tulle in a minty-green. It was very pretty but hard to see through white seats. I'd recommend a thicker tulle or material so it really shows up well against the white seats. I think I saw some ribbon about 6 inches thick for the seats. Oh- and have someone else take photos of you when the photographer is taking pictures. We got 50 great pictures but the other 186 of them looked awful. Our guy was a big fan of us looking down at him, with double chins ensuing.

Guy's Complementary Room: Well, let me just say that it makes you want to be back with your bride, especially after being in the Honeymoon Suite. Saying anything more would be telling....

We really enjoyed Dreams Tulum and they really made our wedding wonderful. Lizet takes care of you. Just relax and get ready for a wonderful stay at an excellent resort.

jerzygirl- they bring the cake out right at the beginning of the reception. i'm sure they could keep it inside longer if you asked, but the standard protocol is bringing it out. That being said, it was pretty hot and windy on my wedding day, and the cake held up just fine. It really cools off quite a bit by evening, and b/c the sand isn't powdery fine it doesn't blow up at you much with the wind.

Mosquitoes LOVE me. Right about dusk the mosquitoes were pretty bad for me (although no one else seemed to get bitten). After the sun sets, the mosquitoes weren't bad at all. With our reception at 6:30, it wasn't really a problem. I just brought a little bug spray for the days right before the wedding to make sure I wasn't covered in bite marks for the pictures.

ERNurse- I was there the first week in December and didn't have any problems with mosquitos. The ONLY time I noticed them all week was when i was walking in to our cocktail hour from taking pics right after the ceremony and stopped to talk to the DJ who was setting up at the Seaside Grill. I got bitten a teeny bit but they were gone by the time we came to reception there they were gone. We were there for a week and that is literally the only time I saw or felt a mosquito.
