Riu Palace brides in Playa del Carmen

Recommended Posts

Thanks Scharke!

By the way, last night I called the Riu because I just wanted to talk to someone while i decided.

They confirmed that you can pick everything after you book the date, and change most of the details.

They also confirmed that there are NO options for a private reception EXCEPT for renting out the mexican patio restaurant if you have 50 people or more, and not until 8.30 pm.

Hope this helps.

Hey, has anyone happened to see pictures of what kind of bouquet the Riu provides to bridesmaids? I assume that I'll get some input into the type of flowers and the colors, but I'd like to see a pic for an idea of the quality. I'm trying to figure out if it's easier to buy my bridesmaids bouquets through the resort, buying flowers from somewhere else and making our own bouquets, or bringing silk flowers down with us.

They can get you whatever you want, if you email them a picture or bring one with you. They also have standard ones you can pick from. I have seen pics of bouquets from real weddings there and they are beautiful.

We were interested in this resort but I am not fond of the fact that we can not have a private reception if we have under 50 people...

Ahhhhh I just want to have a resort set! I am sick of looking over so many places!

I was thinking that the Riu could be the perfect compromise (for those of you that don't know, I cannot pick a location!), people who wanted something nicer could stay at the Riu Palace Mexico, my FI and I could stay there, and have the wedding there (I believe they have beach ceremonies and private receptions - right?), then people who wanted a more affordable option, could stay at the Riu Yucatan or Playacar right next door.

Now, I understand that people from the palace can go anywhere, and from Yucatan and Playacar can't. So, I know that I would have to pay for a day pass for those folks to come to the wedding, but my question is, the Riu Palace also specifies that 80% of guests have to be staying at the hotel. Does that mean the Riu Palace, or could that be any Riu hotel?

So, basically, 2 questions:

1. If for example, we had 50% of our guests at Riu Palace, and 50% at Riu Yucatan, would that be fine, (we would just have to pay for guest passes for the day for those at Riu Yucatan)? or is that not allowed because of the 80% rule?

2. Do you know for sure if they do private receptions in a terrace or some kind of outside space in the Riu Palace Mexico?

Thank you ladies!

Hello,
I would like to know about these exchange privileges also. I understand that those staying at RIU Mexico can go to Yucatan, Tequila, etc. but can they not come to RIU Mexico and get drinks, and whatnot? On everything I have found, it says they only have exchange privileges with Tequila, Yucatan, and Playacar, but not this one. I thought it would be a great option if guests could stay at these less expensive ones, but not if they can't come over to our resort as they please. Any advice/info would be great. Thanks!
Annie

I know this thread is OLD, lol, but just wanted to add some input just in case. 80% of your guests MUST stay at the same resort.

Examples:

You get married at Riu Palace Mexico (RPM), 80% of guests must stay at RPM.

or

You get married at Riu Yucatan, 80% of guests must stay at Riu Yucatan. They can't stay at RPM, even though it costs more.

Hope this helps someone! Oh, we've stayed at several Rius, and never had a problem with "smelly" rooms. Always a good time!
