Hi everyone,

Just wanted to know your thoughts on whether I need to buy/make formal invitations and what others did for an island wedding. Our travel agent/planner will send out an invitation with all the details and to RSVP her on pretty paper. Should I send out formal ones too or how did everyone include the info on the trip (i.e. what the week costs etc) in their invitations.

Thanks!

Ali

I am doing invites but that is because I am having a more formal/traditional wedding. I think you can do whatever you want to do. You can always just do a fun Save the Date now and then just have them contact your TA.

In my Save the Date I put included a card that had the link to our website, and our travel agent information. Then on the website I have more detailed travel information - the cost was changing to much, and people coming from different places and on different dates - i don't think I could have put that info. anywhere.

my invites will be pretty "traditional" in that it will just be the invite, and an RSVP card. i may do an additional insert if there's any more information i think they need - but I don't know what that would be yet.

long story, short - i do think you can do whatever you want! there are girls who aren't doing invites at all. but since many people haven't RSVPd to us yet, i think this might be the only way to get them moving!

I did STD's that included the TA's information, I haven't finished my website yet, and I don't know if I really have any desire too (thats so awful!!)

I am making my invitations and this was just because I didn't want to spend a lot of money on them. I bought a kit at staples, it has the invitation, the reply card, and the reception card, and all the envelopes, the kit was I think $25 or $35, I can't remember, and I'm going to print them on my fathers printer (he has a really nice printer) and I'll probably put our monogram on them as well, to make them pretty. They are white with a silver raised border. This was one area where I felt I could save money.

There are some invitation threads here, some of the girls have gorgeous invitations. My favorite, off the top of my head was Christa's, she did the pocketfold ones, and she did them herself, can't remember the cost, but they were very pretty.

sorry to ramble!

6 months in advance I sent out save the dates that I made by hand and looked like passports with 8 pages of travel information inside inlcuding TA contact info, our website, fun facts about the area and the resort, AHR info, etc.

Then 3 months in advance I sent out formal pocketfold invitations that my mom and I made by hand with an insert with simply our website address (which has all the travel info), and the RSVP cards/envelopes.

I found it was helpful to send out the formal invites because it reminded people to get on the ball and make their reservations/get passports/etc if they hadn't yet.

I am sending Save the Date magnets, they will go out next week. I ordered them from Magnetstreet.com and paid under $200 for 100, shipping, and all taxes. I will add in a sheet I am going to print out that tells them to RSVP on our website.

Once its gets closer to the wedding, I will send nicer invitations to the people who have booked and are coming. This way I will avoid spending too much money on sending nice invitations to everyone. The save the dates are really cool and have all the important info on them.

I did a STD magnet from MagnetStreet.com - I sent them out at the beginning of January....I attached it.

I'm going to do my formal invite (well it's not really that formal) the first week of March - 5 months before the wedding - is that too early?

I can't figure out how to attached...hope this works.

Lisa, I wouldn't send out your invites quite that early. Maybe send them out in May. or even the end of April. Wait until it starts getting warm and then people will be thinking more about the summer and vacations anyway.
