Oh no!  I have not seen these reviews but that terrifies me as I have just sent out my save the dates and Im sure all of my guests will be looking soon.  When I was searching places, most reviews were wonderful.  Hopefully the bad publicity will get them to notice before we all arrive!!

And I love your idea of handing out the OOT bags at the welcome dinner.  I heard that they charge like $4 to place them in guest's rooms for you.

I'm worried and looking into what it would take to switch resorts.  I've reached out through my travel agent and the wedding coordinator and I feel like the RIU is ignoring the concerns.  That goes hand in hand with Trip Advisor reviews that report the front desk and management is ignoring room issues that guests bring up.

If I can't change resorts, then I am putting air freshener and lysol in guests' OOT bags.  I hate that I picked the resort and guests are going to have rooms that smell.

Yes, definitely going to hand the bags out informally.  I've read reviews, actually not specifically for the RIU, of brides paying the room delivery fee and guests not getting their bags until a day or two later.  We're also making some bags geared for single people and couples so it will be easiest to make sure people get the correct ones if my mom and I just pass them out.

I'd inquired about essentially doindg a semi-private cocktail hour as a welcome party, but the only option my wedding coordinator would give me was a private cocktail hour at the Daiquiri Bar.  I would have paid the upcharge for a semi-private area but not what was offered, so we're just going to take over a few tables at the La Plaza Bar.  Hopefully no other hotel guests will be upset by that!

Have you looked into hair and makeup pricing yet? Just wondering if you found a better deal than the $115 hair and $60 makeup that the resort spa offers?

I was planning on bringing in my own people. It's a $200 vendor fee on top of whatever they charge, but I thought it would be a nice afternoon in my room with all the bridesmaids and moms getting our hair and makeup done.  I was thinking we'd order a bunch of room service and just spend the afternoon together.

I am getting ready to book my wedding for June 2014, and I'm so excited! I am just so anxious and stressing right now because the RIU website gives little detail about actual wedding details. If we are able to do a semi private dinner and reception, is the most expensive wedding package necessary? If I don't want a DJ will they still provide sound equipment for an iPod? How do you get the music you want for the ceremony? And I would also love some reviews and prices of the photographer on site. I am terrified that I'll get my pics and they won't be good. Sorry I'm such a worrier!

Hi,

Just trying to get some feedback on other brides weddings. How many people do you have going? And what package are you using? I'm thinking we are going to have about 45 people coming and are going to be forced to a private reception. I'm just looking for ways to save money and still have a beautiful ceremony and reception.

Has anyone that had a private reception just pay for the dinner and not the open bar? I know it will come with beer and wine. Just wondering how strict they are about not giving you liquor if you don't pay for it. It is an all inclusive resort! Just trying to save some $$

Liz - I have about 80 people going!

Things add up fast at the RIU so we are actually having a reception off-site.  It's a whole different set of things to worry about but for us it was the right choice.  I think for 45 people you could rent a room at Wickys in downtown playa and have a lot more freedom for things you want to do.

Hi everybody! I'm getting married at the Riu in May and I was wondering if anyone knows what the average price is for floral centerpieces at the reception? The wedding coordinator emailed me 2 weeks ago asking for a picture so she could price it, but I still haven't heard back. Just trying to budget some things. Any info would be greatly appreciated! :)
