Elissea I have a few questions for you since your so on top of your planning (and I'm not haha!)

Wat does a semi-private cocktail hour entail? I'm getting married at the Riu Mexico  and haven't figured out what I plan to do between when the ceremony ends and our private dinner at 8:45.  I've also been wondering about dancing and what not after dinner. I guess that may be a questions I need to ask the resort, like are we allowed to bring an ipod and dance at the restaurant

Were you given an option of a 7pm dinner because that is what time the second seating is for your restaurant?  I was told that we can either have the restaurant for a private dinner at 6:30 or 8:30. What I would prefer is to be able to have the restaurant the from like 7-11ish though haven't even thought to ask if that is a possibility until right now)

Thanks so much, your planning has been so helpful and inspiring!!

I think I finally have down all the people that are coming to my wedding a mere 17 (including us) which is alright by me. Small, intimate, fun!

You've been such a big help! All your advice/ideas are helping me along. I'm usually a very quiet person and don't get things done! So it's nice to have you ladies in this thread to be able to discuss things with & know i'm not alone! =)

Jez - I have also been talking with the resort photographer. Peter, he said we would talk more in detail when I get down to the resort, but we would probably be doing the all day coverage. In the end, pictures are the best I want the whole day, may even throw in a ttd in there. I am probably bringing down ipod speakers with me, and just set it up anywhere I go since they are portable and don't necessairly have to be plugged in. I'd really like to do some first dances atleast :)

Em - 17 is great - perfect in my eyes.  I am not having a AHR, so I was surprised with our 64 (a few more in the wings to  book, too).  I am beginning to worry about all these OOT items...TGIF so I can have some wine and forget about it for a day or two!  haha

Hi Kard613 - thanks for the compliment.  You are sweet,

A semi-private cocktail hour is just that.  You are amongst other resort guests at the bar/bar area, yet your group is off to the side with some tables set up.  Drinks are free (part of the all inclusive), although if we decide to have some appetizers be brought out I think we have to pay so much per person.  As of now we think we want to do that - it's a lot of food, but we figure if we order the minimum to tie peopkle over until dinner.  We are going to be on the outside part of the bar in the plaza so it will be more spacious and we will have our cigar roller there.

When I first started my planning, I requested a Private Dinner for 7PM at the Chili's Steakhouse (based on old posts in ths thread) and they allowed me.  I have 64 guests (and a few more in the wings).  I think the # of guests you have may also be a factor in them allowing the private seating.  Also, a private reception at the RPRM is the only way they allow you to have a DJ.  We wanted a DJ.  I would ask your planner if you have that option...it never hurts to ask!!!!  GOOD LUCK & keep us posted!

Hello Riu Palace brides,

We just shot a wedding there last month. We think it is one of the nicest resorts on the Riviera Maya.

I did notice a couple of comments that should be addressed. The sunset time for April 2 is 6:03, not 5:00. Daylight savings time begins on April 7, so the sunset times for the rest of the month are a little after 7:00pm. We always suggest that you plan for the ceremony to end about 30 minutes before sunset to leave time for the creative photos.

While I can't vouch for the quality or the expertise of the specific resort photographer, if you choose him you will be missing a good opportunity to work with one of the many exceptionally talented wedding photographers who call this area home. We think the photography is the most important part of your wedding day. Make sure you like your photographer's style and that you have at least one Skype conversation to determine if they "get" you.

Good luck,

M&J

I just emailed her Saturday, and I emailed Paola who I did my confirmation with and Paola forwarded my information to the new girl as well.  Lets see if I hear back! I am 6 months away from my wedding date and have no idea what is going on or any idea of location or time line for the day.

Ariadna has been getting back to me usually within a day sometimes two days.  Perhaps since my wedding is less than 3 months away?  I ma unsure how busy she is...be patient.  I am sure she will respond. bride.gif

Hey Ladies,

I've been bad at keeping up with the blog, but we're planning our wedding for March 25th... it's right around the corner!  I've had some trouble communicating with Ariadna.  She replied to 1 of my 2 e-mails and only barely answered the questions I asked. Going to give her one last shot before going back to Paola or my travel agent to ask for help.

Here's what we have outlined so far... or so I think!

Private Rehearsal Dinner at Chili's the night before the wedding

5:00 Ceremony on the Beach with Violinist

5:30 Semi Private Cocktail Party with Marachi Band at Lirico

7:00 Reception on the Beach

I feel like we're taking a risk with the actual reception on the beach.  I've only seen photos from 1 other bride who had a beach reception, dined outside and had a dance floor and tables placed on the beach.  Oy!  There are several questions they have not directly addressed such as:

How much does it cost for the sound system?

How much does a dance floor on the beach cost?

Can they customize flowers beyond the 4 basic pictures they have?

What are our food choices?

I'm focusing most of my time on creating/ordering items from amazon and etsy for the guest bags, decorations I'm bringing with me and dress/jewelry stuff now. I understand the resort being hesitant to talk about details with several weeks to go, but I wish they were more upfront with prices so I can budget a bit better!  If anyone has any other info or advice to share, I'd love to hear it.
THhnks,
Maggie

Maggie,

I'm planning my wedding at the Riu Palace Mexico and would be more then happy to send you the menu choices/pricing that they've sent me regarding beach weddings.  I can't be sure that its the same pricing however, Paola works between both hotels so it would at least give you an idea.
