Tips on finding a dress:
Do you have an idea of what kind of dress you want? Beaded, mermaid, princess, sweetheart neck, halter??
To get an idea, what I did was look through several wedding magazines and tabbed off certain kinds of styles that caught my eye.

I went to a store that was recommended to me by my friend and that catered only to wedding dresses (brides, maids, mother of brides, etc). FYI--Call the store 1st and make an appt. I called the morning of and was told that I was lucky to get a spot. This is bc each bride gets an assistant to help them and depending on how booked the store is, your appt could run from 1 -2 hrs.

The assistant will ask you what's your budget. You should definitely give them a range bc you dont want her/him pulling out a 30k dress when your budget is only 5k. You dont want to be disappointed when you fall in love w/ a dress you cant get.

Show or tell the assistant the types of dresses you like. She will pull several dresses for you to try on. Once you put the dress on, you'll know if the style is or isnt for you.

Dont be pressured into buying or putting a deposit rt away. I say visit at least 3 stores and try on several dresses to make sure you've found the one. This wont apply if you absolutely love the dress or you are getting the floor sample on a killer deal. You want to be in love w/ your choice. My cousin put a deposit on a dress she found at the 1st store she visited. 1 yr later she found a dress she liked better and it was a whole lot of hoopla before she worked out an arrangement for getting the deposit back (basically all of the bridesmaids ordered their dresses from the store and her deposit was credited towards the maids dresses).

That's bascially it. Hope this helps. GL:)

ShellK- Thanks for the compliment on my website :) You don't have too much longer to wait!! I just started my dress search too...I was told by several bridal shops that lace dresses travel the best. I have no idea if that's true our not...but I know I'm not going to do anything super poofy or too heavy. Like you I want something pretty simple because I think our groomsmen are just wearing white shirts & linen pants, so I don't want to be TOO decked out. I also think they will steam it at the RIU so the dress is looking it's best! Also, make sure you don't check your dress!! I've read several horror stories about brides that had their luggage lost and had no dress. If you carry it on, you can keep it in your hands at all times to make sure nothing happens to it! For all those on here, if anyone wants to email me, my personal email is:
[email protected] I'm by a computer all day so I usually respond really quickly!

Thanks,

Shell--Yes! DO NOT CHECK YOUR DRESS. My cousin got married at Riu Punta Cana in Aug 2008. She had her fiance (now hubby) carry her dress on board. We just didnt want to risk any horror stories. The store where you purchase the dress dhoud provide you with a garment bag. My cuz also brought a steamer w/ her just in case dresses needed to be pressed, but the hotel provided a regular iron in each room and all girls just pressed there own dresses. As for hers, it didnt need any pressing, but I think the hotel provides services to press the dress. Good Luck on the dress search!

Josie--Your wedding website is beautiful! BDW is such a great site, I cant believe I just found it yesterday and already know soo much info.
