Is anyone an organ donor?

I have heard so many conflicting opinions/reports, but my nutritionist said I should not have that selected on my drivers license because in a life or death situation they re not s likely to save my life OR overmedicate someone (as she has witnessed before). she noted that most doctors are not organ donors and she has seen doctors.

So for the Drs/RN's out there, what are your thoughts on the matter? are you an organ donorhuh.gif

Thats charming of your nutrionist all I can say is she has obviously never had a family member that needed a bloody transplant!

I've never known a Dr or a paramedic check someone's pockets for a donor card before they decide if they are going to treat someone or not and usually organ donation is the last thing on their mind - tell me where she is i want to go kick her head in!! (i am biased tho)

5 people in my family including my mum had to have kidney transplants and it gave her another 7 years of quality life she wouldn't have had otherwise.

I always carry a donor card and i'm also registered online for it - each to their own but for me it shouldn't be a choice not to do it - there again i'm biased because its saved many members of my family

see i think it serves obvious good purposes and there are so many people that have lived long healthy lives because of organ donations. But I was wondering about her contention about Dr's not being registered....

I've heard that too but have no idea if it's true. If someone is that unethical, they probably wouldn't do a good job on you anyway. I think it's a shame that so many good organs just end up in the ground when they could save people's lives.

How could she possibly know that Drs aren't registered - every nurse and Dr I know IS and they push organ donation at every opportunity.

Maybe she knows a couple that aren't registered but I bet thats cause they are lazy and can't be arsed to do it rather than they are worried they'll get shit care if they do.

Sorry but she sounds a whacko! lol smile36.gif

I'm a donor and I think it's awfully paranoid to believe that the medical field won't attempt to save a life in order to harvest organs. I also agree with the above comment that if they are that unethical why would they even care if the person ever got a transplant to begin with?
