Do We need to have a reception at home after?

Recommended Posts

oooh I like everyones opinions on this here! when we originally announced the wedding plans, we told everyone that we would be having a party when we come back...we actually put it on our save the dates...but the deeper we get into the planning process, the more i'd rather just spend the money we would spend on having the reception back here, on having an amazing reception in mexico! i know some people might think it defeats the purpose of going AI, but we are planning on spending a big chunk of our budget on a photographer....so i'd defo prefer to forget about the party back here!

We'll see nearer the time, it depends how many people do actually travel over with us! But you defo do not need to have one!

We're not having an AHR for that same reason - to save cash. If we wanted to have a reception at home, we wouldn't have had a DW. We really only wanted immediate family and friends to come anyway and as of right now that is who is coming, so I don't feel bad for the people that choose not to come to Mexico. They can complain all they want. We'll send them a picture when we get home.

To me....all a matter of personal preference. We decided that we were going to have an AHR after we come back as it is only the two of us going. Laid back party - nothing fancy (that is what suits us). We decided from the beginning to do this. Do what will make the two of you happy - not anyone else.

I just had my AHR last weekend and to be honest with everyone I could have done without it. The point of us getting married in Jamaica was to keep things simple. My husband is very much NOT an attention seeker so he was all for the eloping. My parents were not able to make it to the actual wedding cause my father is a recent amputee so they talked us into and AHR. I tried to cancel it back in January. I was worried about paying for it and really did not want it in the first place. Thanks to the Income Tax stimulas check my parents ended up springing for the whole thing! I don't mean to be ungreatful cause they did and amazing job but I really would have been ok with jst the wedding. I had a good time at the reception but it did not compair to the intimate wonderful wedding we had in Jamica!! I say it is 100% up to you but be prepared the reception is definatly a whirlwind!

We also didn't want to have 2 weddings. I couldn't believe how many people just assumed that we'd throw a full-on second reception when we got home. We initially weren't going to do anything at all, but we've decided to just have a party at our house a week after we get back. It's not going to be a reception, just a party, and we're really stressing that to everyone. At first we were thinking maybe a hamburger and hotdog sort of thing, but now we've decided not to even go that far. It's just going to be a house party with chips and pretzels. VERY low key - not a wedding reception, just a party to celebrate.

There are people who think we are having an AHR, but we are not. Originally we tossed the idea around, but I have no desire to plan it or pay for it. I have one friend who keeps saying, "but you're having a party at home right?" WRONG! lol
