Packing Wedding Supplies

Recommended Posts

I was curious as to how everybody planned to get all their wedding supplies to their destination. I have been going over this in my mind for a while and I'm worried about carrying so much through customs. Do most people break it up into different suitcases? LOL- I told FI that he has to use a big suitcase (he normally packs very light).

I'm not a great packer to start with, so I'm totally lost.

I was thinking about this today and think I need to invest in some bubble wrap! So far, my plan is to pack all of the decorative stuff for the wedding and OOT bag stuff in one suitcase, then hope that one of the two of us gets the green light at customs- that person takes that suitcase through. Who knows if it will work, but its a plan anyway... idea.gif

I plan on wrapping all fragile items in bubble wrap and packing them in plastic storage totes or a large suit case. A bride on another site said she also kept a detailed list in her suitcase and one with her of all items that were in the suitcase. She also suggested bringing your receipts to show that you do not plan on selling the items at your destination.

We are not putting all our OOT bag stuff, decorations, sand ceremony stuff in one suitcase because it will be too heavy. We are dividing all this stuff up and putting them in suitcases with clothes. I figure this way we even out the heaviness.

We are also bubble wraping breakables and I will be carrying on our sand ceremony vases.

If we run out of room, we will give some stuff to my mom to take.

I am not too worried about combining everything because of customs. It will be obvious that we are getting married and we will only have 10 OOT bags, not like we will be going down there just to sell this small amount of things.

I am really concerned about this too. Yesterday we purchased 30 oot bags while out of town at my FI's parent's house in Philly. We just put them all into a LARGE suitcase to take home to FL and they fill the ENTIRE thing! There isn't even any room for the stuff we are going to be filling them with! Is shipping a head of time really out of the question. I know a lot of post on here has said that shipping is really iffy...but has anyone shipped to Cancun successfully? There has to be a way. haha

We looked into shipping to Jamaica ahead of time, but it was WAAAAAY expensive (think $200 for 10lbs). We packed everything in our suitcases. We had 3 large suitcases, 2 garment bags (we used one to stuff our custom towels in), and the wedding dress. We traveled first class, so we had a higher weight limit, and we travel with another couple, who checked one of our suitcases for us. My mom brought down 4 lilly bowels for centerpieces, checked in a brown box wrapped with bubble wrap. All but 1 broke, which sucked. Bubble wrap really is your friend, and definitely think about weight when buying OOT stuff, because that stuff gets REALLY heavy.

I think some of the girls who had large weddings gave out their OOT bags prior to the trip. That helps a lot...
