I want a ceremony like this one....http://delsolphotography.com/blog/content/galleries/?gal=298

Is that Cosmic or Mayan?

not legal.... more of a spiritual ceremony.

This wedding is a Cosmic Ceremony

If you are interested in a legal wedding, you can actually have the hotel arrange for you to sign the papers separately.  You can do this by having an actual ceremony OR a private thing sitting at a desk...  We have experienced this before!

I prefer the Cosmic.  We actually had a mayan ceremony on our wedding day: http://www.delsolphotography.com/adventures/laboda

We got married on paper at the courthouse in the USA... then our ceremony was nothing more than symbolic.  No blood tests, no early arrivals, and most importantly, we didnt have to arrange our schedule around the judge's availability.  This is what happens to so many of our brides...

The cosmic actually enlists your guests to participate.  They use the 4 cardinal directions and do blessings to the gods of those directions (i'm speaking as a laymen here)...  This 4 cardinal direction blessing is very similiar to the Mayan Ceremony.

WAY more spectacle in the Cosmic ceremony.

One thing is FOR SURE.... I've won many international photojournalism awards with images that came from Cosmic / Mayan because they are so so so unique, outside the box, wow factor goes up 1000% percent.   We photogs call it "EYE CANDY"...

My vote for cosmic is IN!

good luck ladies!

Hi ladies...we are actually trying to do a half and half kind of thing...first we will have a traditional ceremony, maybe 15min, and then we are having a shaman just do the mayan blessing, with everyone in a circle (which takes less than 10min, rather than the full mayan ceremony, which can take up to 30min). Best of both worlds! I hope :)

This is a summary of the cosmic ceremony that I wrote for a client:

The basic ceremony goes like this.  Charlie and Marie (officiants) have built a cross out of flowers in the sand, pointing to the four cardinal directions.  Each of the directions represents a pagan god, which is represented by a different color flower:

North - purification East - love south - spiritual guidance west - protection   You will choose at least one person from your group to represent each of the different god's/directions.  You will choose one person to represent purification and stand at the north side, another to represent love on the east, etc.  Your mothers will be given a bowl of water.  The remainder of your guests will form a circle around you.  This builds the energy and encircles you in the love of your friends and families.   At the beginning, Charlie will walk you around the outside of the circle and then bring you into the circle facing the ocean.  He will blow the ceremonial conch and then Marie will begin the ceremony.  She will present you the person representing west and talk about protection.  The person representing south will sprinkle you with flower pertals (representing the gift of protecton) and then your mothers will sprinkle you with water.  Then you will walk to the south and they will talk about spiritual guidance.  The person representing spiritual guidance will sprinkle you with flowers and your mothers will sprinkle you with flowers.  You'll move all the way around the circle accordingly.  Then Charlie will speak of commitment and talk about how this is a commitment between the two of you.  You will exchange your vows and then guests will be invited to say something to you two.   The ceremony can be changed or catered to your desires.  Just let him know if you are thinking of having anyone do readings, or anything else.  We had one of our friends step in and lead the exchanging of vows.  You can do what ever you want.

shelby825 - Half and half... that sounds like what I want to do! Did you end up doing it/how did it go? Just the blessing sounds really cool.

I do want a traditional wedding and we also want the ceremony to be a legal one, but the Cosmic/Mayan ceremony just seems too cool and special NOT to do. Our guests would remember being a part of that forever! We are inviting all of our guests to the rehearsal dinner the night before - perhaps we could do a short spiritual ceremony before the dinner. I don't know... just an idea... thoughts anyone??

Has anyone gotten any flack from their families for doing a mayan wedding ceremony instead of a christian or a catholic one? Mine does not understand it and think's it is paganism and blasphemous. We are still going to have it though because it is very much in line with my FI and my beliefs about the world with God being at the centre. We're just not having the typical traditional one. Sigh

Hello Icamzpas,

I can perfectly understand your point since we have had other Brides with the same issue.  What we suugest is to have a catholic or symbolic ceremony prior the mayan one, like this you will pleased your families and then you have the ceremony that you want.

Otherwise you can have on your wedding date a traditional ceremony and incorporate the mayan ceremony to your TTD session like the video attached.

If you explain to your family that a Mayan ceremony is not a "show" if you do it with a 100% real Mayan Shaman, it is a real ancient and meaningful ceremony where the universe is involved, perhaps they can understand better.

Here is a thread that that can help to know a little bit more about the Mayan Ceremonies:

Hope it helps and good luck in your planning!
