Ooooh, stupid people bug the hell out of me

Recommended Posts

I hate it when people send you emails instead of having the guts to talk to you on the phone or face-to-face.

I just got off the phone with a co-worker. I'm not sure if I can really call her that, I don't work with her directly, only for the first week of the month, and she drives me nuts.

I have to compile information for a report every month. This is the 3rd month I've been doing this. The co-worker, let's call her "B", is responsible for gathering all the information for the report from various sources and putting it together in a neat excel package.

Every month, I've had to explain to her that I'm responsible for entering my office's information into this report each month and that she doesn't need to bug my office staff for this info. After emails and phone calls explaining this, she still doesn't get it!!!

She also doesn't label the docs very well, so you can't open this month's and last month's docs at the same time. I renamed this month's doc temporarily so I could open both. I wanted to make sure I was working in the correct one and that the info from last month's doc is different than this month's. I'm also convinced that the work I did on these reports earlier this month she's overwritten.

So after all this, she sends me an email about why there are docs with the word June after them, and if I don't give her a reason in the next 10 minutes she's going to delete them!!! So I replied, telling her it's a temporary thing and that I just renamed the original doc. It's still the original doc, just a temporary different name. So she sends me back another email, this one not so nice, saying that she has a problem with me and that I should never change the docs unless I've got her permission first, and that I should save them on my desktop or somewhere else if there's changes I should make.

WTF! I picked up the phone and told her the next time she has something like this to say, I'd prefer if she'd pick up the phone and talk to me about it. "Well, I send email so I have a paper trail to follow". Oh yeah, and wait until my boss sees it!! She still couldn't understand why I had to change the name of the doc, and couldn't understand that I was going to change it back. BangHead.gif

I then questioned her about why she has to have all 22 dept reports open at the same time. I can't get into any of them now for the next 2 days because she's got them all locked open. I asked if she was just working on the one doc, why doesn't she close the rest? Well I think I could hear the wheels in her head slowly turning because she couldn't come up with a good answer for that one either!

I've got until Friday at 4:30 to get my info into these reports to meet her deadline, yet she won't unlock any of the reports nor give me a good answer as to when they're available.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. censored.gif I think I need to go outside and scream at the sky for a bit. Thanks for letting me vent a bit here.

Grrrr.. sounds like she doesn't know what she's doing.. as far as your updates, you can open the document as a read only, save to your desktop, add your information (maybe make it a different color if necessary) and give it back to her with a different name so she knows it's just for your updates.

Done!

I tried that last month, and she didn't understand that either. She then told me I'm not allowed to alter any part of the doc other than my two pages, and I should only save it on the network.

So she's pretty much contradicting herself. I think I'm going to talk to my boss and have him talk to her boss to see if this is just a string of bad incidents or if this is a common occurance.

Seriously, why would you work at an IT company if you know diddly squat about computers?

Do you guys use Sharepoint or just a network file share?
Bit of both. We both work of the network docs until they're ready to be sent to our clients, then she uploads them to Sharepoint and I email them to our clients.

I spoke with my boss and a few coworkers about "B", apparently she's a troublemaker wherever she goes and she's been bounced around from dept to dept because no one's got the guts to properly deal with her.

I think she's one of those that doesn't really work but knows how to work the system in their favor.

I've decided from now on I'm going to get an earlier start on my work so that she can't get in there and "comment" on my work and the problems I'm giving her, and that I'm going to ignore all messages from her until my work is done. I really don't have time to deal with stupid crap from her, on top of all the other things I've got going on right now.
