we aren't doing favors because that is not custom in mexico (thank god one less thing to worry about anyway haha)

i dont have placecards yet, i wasnt planning on doing them originally, so they were never even in my budget. we aren't doing custom menus at each place setting because it would be a lot of extra work for me and honestly i just did not want to do it because i know i'd end up doing it myself. especially now that i found out last night that anything i have to DIY, i have to make like 100 things... waaaay more people that we thought would come from mexico are rsvping that they're coming, and im going to have to have my FMIL bring the list of everyone who she knows is coming next weekend so we can figure out a seating chart and how many placecards are needed. now because so many people are coming that were unexpected, i have to make DOUBLE the amount of programs, and i bought special paper that i can't get any more of. so i either have to have two different kinds of paper, or go purchase all new paper to do the programs, which we HAVE to do because we need to have everything in spanish and english with explanations of the ceremony.

i am this close to doing this girl_werewolf.gifgirl_werewolf.gifgirl_werewolf.gif

Maura,

i think you should do placecards as a solution to all of this - you will control the huge crowd and alert the waitstaff to their meal.

i have a pack of 50 white textured placecards i bought online when i bought the materials for my teal menus and placecards - the cardstock is very high quality - i am not using them - i can send them to you if you want them. also, i can give u the site so you can buy another 50 pack, they were very inexpensive.

as for DIY'ing them - i suggest the following:
  • if you want to make it super easy, handwrite people's names in different color metallic pens and alert the waitstaff what color equals which meal
  • order or buy 3 or 4 (depending on how many meals you need to differentiate) colored papers that coordinate with your wedding and print the names, cut and attach with double sided tape
  • order or buy 1 color card stock that coordinates with your wedding and print the names on there, cut and mount with dbl sided tape, then choose something decorative (you could get a very small starfish or shell stamp and a couple different inks - stamp each placecard depending on what meal they order)
the stamping may be your best bet b/c most likely you will have last minute Mexican additions and you can just bring the stamps with you KWIM?

let me know if you want the placecards

my FSIL did something like this...go to Micheals and pick out two different patterns of scrapbooking paper, one for each entree and use them to make the escort cards (similar to the Hersey bar idea, but without the Hershey bar)

I didn't do placecards until the last minute, and couldn't decide what to do. I wandered around Michael's until I came up with something! I just printed my own cards and stuck these little scrapbooking flowers on the corners. You could do something like this with different colored flowers for the entrees. I got lots of compliments on them.

Maura having mexican guests must be a PITA for you, 99% of my guests were mexican of course and only 20% rsvp'd I had to call everyone to ask if they were comming, and even people who said yes didn't come.. I had 200 guests and paid for 20 or 30 extra plates of people that didn't come..

Anyways, do you want me to try to find the paper you used for your programs?

anny, you're right it is a PITA haha. my FMIL is handing taking RSVPs from all the guests from mexico (thank god so i dont have to - she sent out like 200+ invitations), and i think she's in the process of hunting people down this week because we have to turn in our complete list to the caterer on the 9th. some of the guests down there didnt follow instructions to call his mom to RSVP, instead they RSVP'd on our website, so then i have to compile those and call his mom and let her know every time someone else from mexico RSVPs online. i was originally hoping for a turnout of only about 40 but according to jose's mom, it looks like its going to actually be about 100, so i'm kinda freaking out now because it's a bit beyond my comfort level. i cant believe you ended up paying for 20-30 extra plates for people who said they were coming and never showed up. WTF! smile27.gif dont people realize how rude that is?

thanks for offering to find the program paper for me - i think i may have ordered it from the white aisle sale awhile back, so i may contact them to see if i can purchase some more of it this week. if i cant, i may come back to you to ask for some suggestions on getting bulk textured paper.
