Barbados

Hi all,

 

I haven't seen too many threads about Barbados, I'm thinking about having my wedding there in April 2009. Has anyone ever been to any of the Elegant chain of hotels, the Crane or the Hilton there? I've been there on vacation and remember it being pleasant. I'm also thinking about St Maarten if anyone has any tips. I picked these islands b/c they have the largest Indian populations, and I'm having a Hindu ceremony. Any advice? Thanks

I've stayed at the Hilton in Barbados and really, really liked it. Customer service was great.

 

The main restaurant had a big open-air seating area which was ideal. The pool and the beaches were outstanding.

 

I don't know about wedding arrangements, because I wasn't thinking of it at the time.

We initially began planning our wedding for Barbados in April 2009 because FI is from there. We were basing our decision on 2008 prices and had even decided on a resort. Then, when the 2009 prices came out we were shocked to see that the AI cost per person would be upwards of $3000 per person. While we were willing to pay that, we couldn't ask our guests to pay that much so we decided to stick with a DW but just a more affordable one. We plan on going to Barbados in 2010 as an anniversary honeymoon.

 

I see that you've changed your destination to Montego Bay as well...what happened with your Barbados April 2009 plans?

I am getting married in Barbados on Dec 21, 2008. The all inclusive prices are ridiculous and the food is the same stuff over and over again. It can be very pricey to host a wedding in Barbados if you try to do everything yourself. I found it much easier to just work with a coordinator on the island.

Thank you! I am really excited but because we decided rather suddenly to move our date I feel like I am going to miss something important. I will post information about the wedding when I get back as Barbados seems to not be a popular pick.
