Alternative to Welcome Dinner at Resort

Recommended Posts

Hey,

Has anyone done the welcome dinner outside of the resort? Most of our guests are staying in the hotel zone, so I wanted to put together something in that area instead of our resort. I don't want it formal or anything, just something fun and reasonably priced. Doesn't even have to be a dinner. I can't remember who I was talking to, but someone mentioned that they had some type of cruise. Any ideas?

I'm actually trying to save some $ on this part, so we're going to have a "drop-in" welcome reception in our suite at the resort....maybe just cold appetizers (but I'd like to do hot tacos) and lots of beer and margaritas. I'm a little nervous about how it will go.

Sorry, I know this doesn't really answer your question.

From what I've read, lots of people have done their welcome receptions/dinners off of the resort grounds. My only concern in doing this was transportation.....seems like it would be a pain...but, some bride's don't provide the transportation.

We briefly considered doing a booze cruise, as a welcome, but then decided against it....

okay, sorry started to ramble a bit.....

Sorry in advance if I ramble =)

We went to a friends wedding in Playa last July, and they did not do any type of welcome dinner or gathering. They hung out in the main part of the pool the entire day of everyone arriving and somehow everyone just found each other.

Through the day we all planned to meet in the lobby at a certain time that night. We all went out bar hopping that night after everyone got there - - and we all had a blast!!

I'm hoping for the same type of thing to happen the night we all get there.

I don't want to plan anything that is going to cost extra - that's just me being cheap!

Hi! Just got done reviewing an option.....Don't know how much $$ you have to spend, but there is a Sunset lobster cruise . Sounds like it would be tons of fun, and could be a very nice treat for everone attending!

It includes:

Champagne sunset cruise in a Trimaran

5 course dinner on beach

live music

I think that it's like $79 per person...and I think that it's cancun weddings....if not, I can ask my TA.....

I didn't know how many people you had attending either!

Hope this helps!!

Tammy said that they did this cruise, she might have more information on it....I will have to get back to you with more information....

I know the Moon Palace has lots of information on different cruises, dinners etc. We got tons of info on that stuff when we were there for our honeymoon...I MAY still have some of it. I'm at work right now but I'll look when I get home. Maybe I'll find something good!

You may even be able to ask your contact there if they have any reccomendations - they were really helpful whenever we asked them about stuff. And I know they frequently provide shuttle transportation from the hotel to the various events/locations...but with your guests in different hotels that doesn't really help much, I guess! rolleyes.gif

Ok, so I guess I didn't really help "solve" anything at the moment! I'll let you know if I find anything in my honeymoon info.

if you do the lobster cruise a couple of tips:

1. if you are not going to rent the entire ship, ask the boat if they will reserve a section on the outside for your group so you can sit outside.

2. if they will not reserve a section for you, get there early! the early-birds get the best seats...steve and i got there about 30 mins early and we were the last people to get an outside seat (the inside isn't as much fun or romantic).

3. bring a cardigan because it can get chilly.

4. stay away from wearing hees because you are going to be on a boat.
