I wanted to pick the perfect resort, too. I would have preferred to go to one of the islands, but I knew more people would come if I had my wedding in Mexico. So, no, I didn't pick the perfect resort. I don't think there is one. But I had a blast, spent a great week with my husband, family, and friends, and got married! That's really all that matters!

I am in the same boat this is too weird. I do not want a beach wedding, it must be AI/family friendly/ and affordable. I can't sleep and I have researched the internet inside and out. I even have an outside wedding planner in Riviera Maya who is fantastic and I still can't find the perfect place. My fiance and I love Barcelo Maya Palace but they will not allow my wedding coordinator bring her own vendors. We requested the policies for outside wedding coordinators and a list of the vendors so Luisa, my wedding coordinator could contact the vendors herself but the communication at Barcelo Maya Palace stinks. I even cc'd the group reservations manager and still haven't gotten a reply, it's been 3 weeks since I sent the last email. Does anyone have any other suggestions of resorts?? Luisa has tried calling and emailing in spanish but still no urgency. Luisa's fear is that she won't be able to coordinate the wedding with lack of communication from the other coordinators. What do i do??

Many resorts have their own wedding coordinators and won't work with outside coordinators & vendors. If you want to continue working with an outside coordinator, you may want to consider getting married somewhere off the resort, many ladies here have done this because they wanted a more private and flexible wedding than what the resort offers.

 

It seems that almost all resort coordinators are very slow in responding, so again, going off resort would help with this, but it won't be cheap.

You can also look at puerto vallarta or los cabos. They both have beautiful catholic churches if that's an option You say you don't want sand so maybe church is what you want? I'm not sure but I know how you feel! Just relax and remember that You can't please everyone!!! I'm staying at the A.I Riu Palace in los cabos and having my ceremony at the church and reception at the westin. Good Luck and if you have any questions you can PM me anytime.

I have my own wedding coordinator in Riviera Maya, if I didn't I would have chose H10 Punta Coral Ocean By H10, it's very affordable (avg $850 for 5 nights AI/airfaire), modern, family friendly and I've read fabulous reviews. I can't use the resort now because they do not allow external wedding coordinators But I too refuse to marry on the beach. But the wedding coordinator there is Karla and she answers every single email and goes above and beyond!

I also looked at Blue Bay Esmeralda ($800-950 for 5 nights) in Riviera Maya Hotel Playa del Carmen - Riviera Maya - Mexico - BlueBay Grand Esmeralda . Cecilia is the wedding coordinator there. She offered to put down a wooden deck on the beach for the wedding ceremony.

Grand Sunset Princess, Grand Sunset Princess hotel Mexico, Princess Hotels & Resorts, Promotions, Meetings, online reservation Riviera Maya, again ($1000 for 5 nights) also a new hotel.

El Cid Marina El Cid Resorts | Mazatlan & Cozumel Mexico Hotels & Resorts is another resort in Riviera Maya ($1000+/-) This resort is cool because there are waterfalls, slides, and a cliff jump in the adult pool. There are also only 200 suites I believe. So if you're looking for something more intimate that is the place. They have an awesome jetty you can marry on. This didn't work for us again because they won't work with my wedding planner and my group of 50 is too large but I have gorgeous pics of the jetty if you want them. This is also pretty new.

I highly recommend checking these hotels out on tripadvisor.com, you can read all the traveler reviews but most importantly look at the pictures actual vacationers take. I also are looking for a NICE hotel that is affordable and family friendly and not wanting to marry in the sand. I am here if you have any other questions.

I finally decided to just keep my choices limited to some of the most popular resorts on this forum ... I figured it must be wonderful if so many brides have chosen it. Plus you know you will have lots of information on here about that resort once you pick it

 

I am waiting till after we do a site visit to choose but I've narrowed my list down to:

(oh and I also don't want to get married on the sand so that really limits our choices)

 

El Dorado Royale (adults only - so that won't help you)

 

Barcelo Maya Palace (kids are allowed, pretty gazebo but I heard its not very private)

 

Moon Palace (kids allowed, lots of gazebos, I think its the priciest on my list)

 

Gran Bahia Principe Tulum (kids allowed, cheaper than the others, and very nice gazebo)

 

Dreams Tulum (kids allowed, Dreams has good wedding packages, but no gazebos off the sand .. I just liked the spanish chapel, but all my guests probably won't fit so this is last on my list)

 

Dreams Cancun has an awesome gazebo I'm just really concerned about how windy it will be (I hate the wind, I get so annoyed with it and I want to keep my long hair down) ... I also didn't want to be in the strip of Cancun. I like the idea of a more isolated area

My resort offers all those things. The Gran Bahia Principe has 3 resorts right next to each other. Tulum, Akumal, and Coba...they are all located in Akumal and have a great beach. Prices are pretty affordable.

 

I would definitely contact a TA. Mine specializes in weddings and honeymoons!

 

We are getting married on the Tulum side in the beautiful gazebo!

You can contact a couple of TA's if you like. There are a lot of great ones on this forum, i think they each specialize in a certain area like Jamaica, Riviera Maya, etc. and contact a few local ones near you. And then you can choose whomever you are more comfortable with.
