Hey gals,

I just wanted to ask all of you getting married in the next couple of months if this swine flu outbreak originating in Mexico is affecting your travel plans. I am reading concerning reports and am worried that the spread has just started...What a mess. *SiGH*

Yeah it is! We more then likely will cancel our wedding. My FMIL has cancer and a very weak immune system. Her doctor won't release her to travel now with all of this. We are going to call our TA tomorrow to find out what the process is to cancel. I had mentioned on the SWINE FLU Thread that I am ok with chaning our plans. I could not imagine getting married without my FMIL there. It broke my FI heart when she called today and I immediatly told me that we would change it. We had all ready talked about it earlier during the day, but it was just confirmed that we should change/cancel it when we got the call from his mom. I am stressing out over the refunding of the money and the changing of the plans. I will keep you girls posted. shots.gif

jena,

i am soooo sorry. I didn't realize there was a Swine flu thread...sorry to bring it up but I got so worried. You are so right about the weddingnot being the same without certain people there...you are doing THE RIGHT thing. My invites/save the date combo mailing went out yesterday and now i am sorry i even sent them because we don't know where this is going....

I think the refund at ASP should be OK as long as it is 45 days before the wedding. A lot of airlines are refunding money for those traveling to mexico...I ams ure you will be OK in the end. please please keep us posted.

It's offical....we cancelled our Mexico Wedding! There are eight of us that will get back all of our money, with the exception of the $80 for the insurance. My FI family (7) will only get their money back for the hotel and will get a travel voucher for their airfair. A few other guests will probably get the same. I guess that is better then nothing. We are now scrambling to plan the wedding here at home. We have found a hotel that has July 25th open. I am bummed that I have to push the date futher. I want to be married all ready!!!!!!! We are planning on getting pregnant right away, and now it just sucks that we have to wait another month. I know that it's only one more month...but still! Like everyone says...Everything happens for a reason.

Rachel-how are your plans going? I know it's a few months away, but is everything ok?

Jena, I'm sooo sorry you had to cancel. But I completely understand with everything going on and with your FMIL's condition. It's making me so sad to hear about all of you out there who are cancelling. And it's making me nervous! I really don't know what to do. My mom called me the other day to ask if I was cancelling, and I said no. I'm not sure what she wanted to hear. She is usually pretty calm and "whatever" about these kinds of things so I was surprised she was asking at all. I'm not sure if she was just checking to see if I was freaking out, or if she was hoping I was cancelling. My bridesmaid just backed out citing the swine flu as her reasoning, but I think it was just an easy excuse. She hadn't booked yet and kept dropping hints making it seem like she wasn't going to be able to come anyway. I wish she had told me earlier, but whatever, that's a story for another day...

So far we have 14 people booked. Our parents, our 2 siblings (each with their significant others), Scott's BM and one friend from high school (each with their significant others), and my cousin with her daughter who is supposed to be my flower girl. I haven't gotten a call from anyone else complaining or wondering what we are doing at this point, but who knows if it's coming....the only person I might be worried about is my flower girl. She will be 3 in July and everything I hear about the SF affecting kids makes me nervous for her. There's only 4 other people (my MOH and a friend and each of their significant others) that told us they were coming that haven't booked yet, but we also haven't received all our RSVP's back yet (even though I said April 1st!) so who knows. Especially now, I'm nervous that those people that were considering coming definitely won't now because of this whole thing. My MOH was about to book right before all this but decided to wait because she's hoping prices will drop. I'm not at all worried about her not going; I know she will be there for me no matter what happens, she just hasn't physically booked yet. Everyone else is up in the air.

As for planning, I haven't really done anything since this all started. I have a list of a million things I still need to do, but I don't want to do them if I'm going to end up cancelling (or not having guests).

In the last few weeks (before the SW even surfaced in the news) I was having second thoughts about the wedding and the choices we had made in resort and location and whatever else (none of this having anything to do with the SF). I guess I was just getting nervous that I made the wrong choice. I of course talked myself out of it and know that my wedding will be absolutely wonderful at ASP, but now I'm more prepared I guess if I am forced to cancel. I think everything happens for a reason, and if I can't get married in Mexico then that wasn't where I was meant to be married!

At this point, I am NOT cancelling. My date isn't until mid-July and I'm really hoping everything will have blown over by then. I will decide for sure as it gets closer. The thought of coming up with a "Plan B" did cross my mind, but I just don't have time to do it right now. I'm finishing up grad school (3 weeks! yay!) and working 2 full time jobs. I don't even have enough time to sleep let alone plan ANYTHING right now. And it's just too much work to plan this all over again.

But my heart goes out to everyone who has had to cancel sad.gif It seems like such a waste (of both time and money and emotions) to cancel after all that planning, and it's so depressing!

Jena, I hope you still get your dream wedding...is the hotel you are looking at close to home?

Hi everyone!

Especially rbarzu...we're getting married on the same day! I've got the 4 o'clock ceremony on the cove side. Maybe 4:30 who even knows at this point.

So about the swine flu...

I talked to my travel agent (who is a long time family friend and guest of our wedding) and she has been to Mexico in the last week for some meetings. Cancun side resorts are at 75% occupancy and nobody is wearing masks. The flu doesn't seem to have spread there and Mexico itself is reporting a down turn in cases. Not to mention the people who have contracted the flu in the US and Canada have only been mildly sick with very few hospitalizations...the normal flu hits way harder and affects more people each year. I definitely think there is reason for concern but not alarm...esp for those of us who's wedding is still months away. We've decided to turn this into a positive instead of stressing and encouraged our guests to get their plane tickets now while prices have dramatically dropped. Buying insurance for $20 was advised of course and i think it gave some people peace of mind.

I'm sorry for those who have had to cancel. It's a shame this whole thing happened in the first place.

I'm looking forward to chatting with you all and exchanging ideas, thoughts, concerns, etc.

Rachel,

Yes, the hotel is here in my hometown. I am getting exciting about having it here at home. My friends and family are very excited about us having here. A lot of people are offering their time and help to assist us in our planning. We are going to have it July 25th. I am sorry to hear about your BM. Like you said, she should have just told you from the beginning that she was not going to be able to make it. Did she already get her dress? I also had concerns about my future nieces and nephew. They are 3, 7, and 10 and like many of you I read that the stupid SW affects them the most. Like you said everything happens for a reason. I know that we made the right decision to cancel and change it to a place her in Las Cruces. I hope that everything works out for you. I think that by June everything will have blown over and it will be just like any other day. Congratulations on your graduations! That is an awesome achievement. smile29.gif
