Where to go on my honeymoon

yep. we are staying on ambergris caye. we hired a private car service to pick us up at our hotel in playa del carmen and drive us across the border to corazal, belize. from there we are taking a small puddle jumper plane to san pedro (the town in ambergris caye). the whole trip will take about 5-6 hours but we are leaving mexico at 8am. no real direct flights exist from cancun to belize city, so hiring a car is best. we're pretty excited to just relax and watch the mexico countryside and stop in small towns along the way- it's an experience that i don't think many tourists get to do.

ambergris caye really has a wide range of hotel choices. they are serious luxury hotels and also smaller b&b type places. we went for a hotel in the middle range right outside the town but it's in walking distance to everything. i use the word "town" pretty loosely. there are only dirt roads and just a handful of cars.

coming from the riviera maya i think that belize is one of the most feasible and economic choices, but i'm sure other places would work also.

Alyssa makes an excellent point - the dollar is worth beans in Europe. You migth consider a place like south america where your $$ migth go further. And you're closer to SA too meaning less time on a plane.

That's awesome that you get another fabulous trip after your wedding. It also migth be a good idea to "unwind" if you are going right after the wedding.

I voted for Greece but I'm torn between there and Bora Bora. I was in Venice and Paris in August 2007. Both are beautiful but I was tired because both cities required a lot of walking and site seeing. I think Greece and Bora Bora would give you and your new hubbie more time to enjoy each other and at the same time go somewhere cultural. Also, Venice is pretty small... I think after a few days you'd be ready to go somewhere else. Oh, and there lots of mosquitos in Venice due to the canals. I got bit like I was the only human there.

For a honeymoon, so somewhere low key and romantic. I love London, Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice... all of the cities.

But for a honeymoon go with a beach. Go to Bora Bora. Or Thailand.

Do the others on another trip. Honeymoons should be calm, waking late, nothing to do but hang out together... when you go to a busy city, you have an agenda, stuff to see...

yes, I totally agree.

I'm doing an orbitz search for bora bora right now. it's quite the flight from north carolina. looks so amazing though. There are too many places on my list of places to see & the list just keeps getting longer.

someone mentioned before to avoid the huts on the water. they said they were full of bugs.
