Hawaii Question

I have to agree with Ta Maureen- a safe figure is about $7000. It certainly doesn't hurt to try and budget for $10,000.

The trip is in 4 years - just look at what how much the costs have risen in the last few years! From MI the flights tend to be more expensive than from either coast and the interislands flights have jumped up tremedously since there are fewer airlines flying those routes.

Even going the condo route- when I was there two years ago in Maui a dozen eggs ( at the local supermarket- not the touristy one! ) was app. $5.00 ba dozen, milk about $4.00 a gallon- I can't imagine what it is now!

She'll need a rental car for the 12 days - prices will definately be higher on those!

Cruise pricing has jumped up because of the cost of gas- plus NCL pulled out most of their ships from the Hawaii interisland routes and redeployed them to Europe.

At any rate I would certainly budget high - there is nothing wrong with coming home with some extra cash in your pocket than not being able to go because you didn't save enough!

It seems like a lot, especially if you've got someone to stay with for the majority of the time you're there. inter-island travel is really cheap. We visited 2 islands in 8 days and barely spent 5k... and we traveled from nyc... BUT I'd lluuuuvvvvv to spend 10k on a hawaii trip... I mean, besides our wedding!

And Chiquita, my cats and your cats are twins! Lol!

I heard that the interisland flights have doubled and in some cases have gone up more than that! This was when all the airlines were going out of business this spring- such as Aloha, Ata, Frontier - and last month when I was pricing out a two island anniversary vacation the interisland air was double the normal price - perhaps in the last month pricing has settled back down ? When were you there last and took your flights?

Also airfare usually is less expensive from NYC than from Michigan!

daniel & Derek- for next year I wouldn't worry so much about the $7000 price tag - depending on how you like to vacation but it certainly can be done for less. Personally I'll probably not do a condo again- it was a pain having to grocery shop, cook and clean on vacation- I probably spent half of my time on the island doing that!! However we had two of my girls with me and also my Dad so it would be completely different for just two people.

I still say have them budget for alot and if the vacation comes in less great! But this way if prices do go up the way that they've been, they can still go!

We went to Maui last year for 10 days. We stayed at the 4 Seasons in Wailea and it cost us $9000 for the air fare, hotel with full daily breakfast, convertable rental car, sailtrip to trilogy to Lanai, luau at the Old Lahaina luau. However, we spent another 1500 for lunch & dinner.

Hawaii is expensive and specially Maui but if they do not have to pay for a hotel 10000 for air fare and food is high for a week IMO.
