If you like chic lit my other favorite series is the Shopaholic Series by Sophie Kinsella.

I love to read on vacation on the beach.
The Shopaholic Series are great too!!

I could go on and on with this topic :) If you like thrillers (as I do too) James Patterson usually puts out a good beachy sounding one. I've read the Beach, Beach Road, The Lifeguard and the new one Sail I just got sounds good too. Ok enough pw.jpg

The Lifeguard was good. Sam's Letters to Jennifer by him was good too.

the time traveler's wife by audrey niffenegger
Thats my favorite book!! It's great...I should read it again sometime.

My favorite author of the moment is Jodi Picoult. Her books are easy to read but are usually about serious topics. Anyone else reading her books?

Have you read "The Secret Life of Bees" (by Sue Monk Kidd)?

Another good, light (and I guess, educational) read is "The Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth". Very interesting - my Dad passed it on to me. I would recommend reading it on the plane and then practicing the 5 rights either in your hotel room or on the beach!!! Ooooooh what a dreammmmm.....

Legend has it that hidden in the remote reaches of the Himalayan mountains lies a secret that would have saved Ponce de Leon from years of fruitless searching. There, generations of Tibetan monks have passed down a series of exercises with mystical, age-reversing properties. Known as the Tibetan Rites of Rejuvenation or the Five Rites, these once-secret exercises are now available to Westerners in Ancient Secret of the Fountain Of Youth. Peter Kelder's book begins with an account of his own introduction to the rites by way of Colonel Bradford, a mysterious retired British army officer who learned of the rites while journeying high up in the Himalayas. Fountain of Youth then offers practical instructions for each of the five rites, which resemble yoga postures. Taking just minutes a day to perform, the benefits for practitioners have included increased energy, weight loss, better memory, new hair growth, pain relief, better digestion, and just feeling younger.

I love Jodi Picoult's books. I've read quite a few but I liked 19 minutes, The Pact, Plain truth, and Vanishing Acts. I haven't really had one of hers I didn't like. There are still some I haven't read of hers yet. Any reccomendations I haven't read?? I also read My sisters keeper and 10th Circle. I think that's it.

the time traveler's wife is being made into a movie. it'll be out this christmas. funny, b/c about 3 yrs ago, when i read it, i said it would make a fantastic movie if done well. i saw gwenyth in it, but they went w/ rachel mcadams.

i read a few jodi picoult, but i feel like they are all the same. best picoult was 'my sister's keeper'. same thing w/ anita shreve - read one if you want to read a good book, read more than one if you want to read the same thing all over again. best anita shreve - a wedding in december.

i read eat, pray, love...i think you either love it or hate it. i loved the part about italy, but was bored throughout the rest.

i'm a huge fan of anything augusten burroughs (running w/ scissors, esp - movie was terrible, but book was great), david sedaris (naked - laughed so hard i fell out of my chair), chuck palaniuk and douglas coupland, if you have a sick sense of humor. i also loved the book 'water for elephants' by sara gruen.

currently i'm reading 'when you are engulfed in flames' by david sedaris.

oh, and if you are really sick like me, read 'a dirty job' and/or 'lamb' by christopher moore. in lamb, you find out why jews eat chinese food on christmas, lol.

Thanks for all the great recommendations! I actually have Lamb and a lot of other books I have bought and never read. I'm just in the mood for a light chic lit book. I definately want to get the Time Traveler's Wife.

Lauren!!!! Christopher Moore is one of my very favorites. I've read EVERYTHING he's written. Lamb is my favorite. But Bloodsucking Fiends has a special place in my heart (the sequel wasn't good enough).
