I just packed em all up in a suitcase!  lol

I had 51 guests, and yes, it took up a ton of space, but it was worth it, everyone loved them!

:)

(to pack, I just put some newspaper in and around them here and there)

They arrived in good condition

Well I'm brand new to BDW, and am thisclose to choosing Azul Sensatori for my May 2013 wedding. I spent this weekend reading the last year of posts on this thread, so I hope my questions aren't too redundant.

Our budget is extremely limited, so I'm wondering the best way to cut corners. It seems like a lot of you brought your own decorations. I was planning on using whatever sparse inclusions came with the free or Pearl package, but now I'm feeling like I should budget for sheers or lanterns or something. How little do you think I could get away with?

I was also trying to come up with options to enhance my guests' experience, but I'm having difficulty obtaining much information since we haven't booked yet. I'm thinking the s'mores bonfire would be a suitable welcome gift. Then I was considering doing the donkey bar (sans donkey) as a private cocktail reception after the ceremony. We'd follow this with "free" reservation dinner at Spoons (are there other options?). Does this make sense to do? Is there a better option? I don't think we'll have a DJ or anything like that since I'd rather spend my resort fee money on a photographer.

How much in the way of extras (flowers, setup, hair) would you estimate you spent?

I would love to just book the resort and figure it all out later, but since we're cash-limited it'd help me to be able to ballpark additional expenses.

This thread is amazing; thanks in advance!

Hi Ladies - just a question. We are having our wedding there in Oct of 2012. We recently did our site visit and can't wait! The hotel is amazing and the staff was great! Quick question.. we are trying to lock in rates for our guest rooms and they told us we had to put down a deposit of 150 per room to lock in the rate. This seems a bit odd to me and I asked around to some friends who also did destination weddings and this was not required of them.

Did anyone else run into this with the hotel and if so does that 150 then get credited towards your wedding as people book or does that get refunded or do you just have to pay for part of every guests room? They haven't been clear when getting back to us and I haven't heard anyone else mention this - so not really sure. Any insight would be awesome! Thanks!

I'm not sure where you're coming from, however, in order to guarantee room availability for my guests there was a $150 per person deposit put down on the all-inclusive package. The $300 (total per couple) was put towards their trip, but it guaranteed the rate and the room (but most importantly space on the flight). We booked through our travel agent here in Canada and with Sunwing Vacations. I guess it really depends on what you want to do. We arranged the deposit through our travel agent, and asked people in advance if they wanted to put the deposit down. Some people accepted, and some declined. Those who accepted paid us back. We didn't put out the cash until we spoke to all of our guests in advance.

At the end of the day, there's only so much that you can do for your guests. The way I rationalized it (such that I wouldn't go mental during the planning process) is that our guests are adults, and if they want to be there, they'll make sure that they are. Don't stress too much about putting deposits down for everyone if it's going to be a hassle. If you can, outsource the arrangements to a travel agent that will handle that stress. You don't want to be responsible for planning everyone's vacation on top of your wedding.
