Hi ladies! My date is 0ct 19, so finally getting closer. We are doing the ceremony and cocktail hour on the beach and reception poolside..any advice on shoes? I wanted a pair of badgley mischka heels forgo walk down the aisle and for the reception. We are planning to kick off our shoes n go barefoot for the actual ceremony. And I was going to get wedge flip flops as back up. But any advice on if you can actually walk down the aisle at the beach in heels? I'm worried about the wood planks and sand. Any advice would be great! Thanks!!
I wore heels and had no problems on the sand. The sand is actually quite firm, so as long as you don't put all your weight on your heels, you'll be fine. The only issue we had ( heels and flats) was walking down the wooden ramp. All the sand makes it slippery, so be careful and take your time.

 So i am going to check out the prices on LED lights at Michael's. I have a feeling it is going to be expensive so it looks like I will attempt to make the LED throwies. Thanks for idea!!! I would have never thought of putting it together myself. Wish me luck! Hope it is an easy project! lol
It was a super easy project. If I remember correctly the batteries and LEDs cost me about $25. Then I bought electric tape and small alligator clips to keep them secure- about $7. So I think for about 35 LED throwies (we made extra just in case) the total was about $32 or less. The basic idea is LED attached to battery with tape. To keep the light off til Mexico insert a small plastic tab between the battery and LED connectors when taping together. Use electric tape! Then place it into alligator clip to keep secure. Nice part is you can also use the clip to attach string to help you hang the light in the lantern. Once in Mexico all you have to do is remove the tab and voila - light on. ( some of our lights were still on after 9 days)

Ooops.. Forgot to mention we used 2 LEDs per battery. Check the forum for exact details. I think it listed the battery model and LED type.

Hi Everyone, 

  We are getting ready to leave next week and I have a few questions I thought maybe you might have answers/ suggestions for:

 

Does any past or present brides have suggestions for brunch the morning after the wedding??  Did you provide a private brunch, or make a reservation at one restaurant OR... just have everyone meet at a certain restaurant?   Are there any restaurants you would suggest that would make this easy?? I don't want our guest to feel like we are leaving them hanging with no plans for the morning, but I feel silly paying for another private event, when they have already paid for all their meals already! 

 

Also... Does anyone know if there are irons or hairdryers in the rooms?  And has anyone had the hotel steam their dress or the bridesmaids dresses once you got down there?

 

I was also wondering if anyone had experience with fake eyelashes, I read a thread on this website about them, but I was wondering if the heat would have an affect on them and if I did wear them if I should bring my own... I'm having Azul do my makeup......

 

one last thing.... did anyone use your cell phones while in Mexico. .What is the best way to make cheaper phone calls stateside? Would you recommend calling cards or calling our cell phone carrier and checking prices?  We have a few pregnant travelers whose husbands are not coming, and I want to make sure they can communicate if neccessary...

Usually you cannot seat more than about 6 people at a restaurant table. And they do not take reservations. I would suggest just telling your guests that you will be at a specific restaurant at a specific time.  The easiest restaurant would likely be Spoon (since it's the largest) Also they have a wide variety buffet and egg/pancake station.

Are there any restaurants you would suggest that would make this easy?? I don't want our guest to feel like we are leaving them hanging with no plans for the morning, but I feel silly paying for another private event, when they have already paid for all their meals already!

There are irons, ironing boards and hairdryers in the room. I did not have to do anything with my dress (it was all lace and travelled really well), but we did have my husbands suit pressed and I do know they offer dress steaming. **Just make sure you have enough time to do it, and remember the laundry section of the hotel does not operate Sunday. And I think it was a 48 hour turn around time for pressing/steaming unless you paid the rush service.

We are from Canada, and sometimes we can get a cell signal, sometimes not. I would suggest that you contact your cell provider and see what they offer. It was quite expensive for us to use our cells, but we saw lots of other people using them. I think it just depends on your cell company/ and reception in the area. There is wifi available at the resort, but I don't remember the cost. The husbands can always call the hotel directly and have the calls forwarded to the rooms.

Congratulations!  You are going to have sooo much fun. 

 

As far as breakfast the morning after your wedding, like Murmel said, you can't seat more than 6 at a table.  They won't let you just push a bunch of tables together (or even two tables).  We didn't do anything for breakfast the day after the wedding.  We had breakfast in bed delivered (part of our package), so we just enjoyed that, and then went and joined everyone.  I don't think your guests feel like they need to be entertained by you all of the time (believe me, they will just be so happy to be enjoying a vacation in Mexico).  I don't know how big your group is, but when I was there, even though you couldn't eat all of your meals together with all of your guests, you will just run into them during regular meal times.  We had about 65 guests with us, and there was always several tables at any given restaurant  with our guests.   It felt a little bad, seeing our guests but not being with all of them all of the time, but it is just impossible.  And really, I don't think anyone cared.  But like Murmel said, if you'd like to get together with your guests for breakfast, just let them know which restaurant you'll be at and what time.  If you have a large group, I would suggest Spoons.  They have the most open areas where you could potentially sit around all of your guests.  The caribbean restaurant (blanking on the name right now) does a nice breakfast, but is smaller, and has a layout that doesn't really lend itself to a large group. 

 

As far as cell phones go, we contacted our provider before we went (Verizon), and switched over to an international plan for just the time that we were going to be in Mexico.  I think some of our friends did that too.  Some providers will do it and some won't.   The ones that we able to use their phones without high fees shared it with some of the others who could not, and people usually just made quick calls to check on the kids, etc.  One of my friends and her husband also skyped with their little boys while they were there, so that is an option too. 

 

I had the resort steam my dress.  It turned out well, and wasn't that expensive.  I think they brought it back a day later, and that was something that the wedding coordinator asked me about right away (can't remember if it was when we checked in or later when we had our meeting with them). 

 

I didn't do the fake eyelashes (but kind of wished I had).  If you are having your makeup done at the resort, they will ask if you want them.  Are you having a trial done before your wedding day?  They will put them on during your trial run to see if you like it (and will charge a fee for it), so if you are unsure, you could give it a try then.
