Brides and their wedding dress!

Recommended Posts

So I've got an absurd amount of weddings over the last 3 years, and I've seen brides from all walks of life.

The thing that still gets me after all this time.......

Bride's and their dresses.

-- Some brides are more laid back and know that they are only wearing the dress one day (hopefully) in their life. They walk in the grass, sand, mud even sometimes with them, and dont twice about it. -- Of course they take care to make sure it doesnt get nasty, but overall, they are not worried.

While on the other hand, there are some brides who completley obsess about their dress and keeping it perfect all of the time. These brides freak out when the photographer suggests a shot that may require them moving (at all), walking thru grass, or anything other than being placed in one spot and allowing the dress to ever so carefully drop down to the ground.

--- Of course, from a photographers stand point the brides that are more laid back about it usually end up getting the better photos as a result!!

But I am curious........ what type of bride are/were you?

If you were admitedly uptight about your dress, what drove you to be this way? -- and where is your dress now?!

I think DW brides are a little better off on this because many have beach weddings, and TTD Sessions are standard for all of our DW's.

........ I was driven to post this question when I recently shot a wedding and when I wanted to take a photo of the bride outside, she refused to go in the grass, and even made us put a trash bag down on the deck before she would allow her dress to touch it.

-- this of course is the extreme, but I've seen other brides with similar attitudes towards their dress. - It's dissapointing from a photographers standpoint because brides like that are usually much more tense and uptight in their photographs as well as opposed to brides who are relaxed and not worried about their dress getting dirty!

What are your thoughts?

Oh geez. Get my dress messy for a good shot. I may only be wearing the thing for one day (well... two with the TTD), but my photos will be FOREVER! And you're only getting one day to get those right.

Want me to climb a tree for the shot of a lifetime? I can do that.

Nathaniel? You reading this? Don't hesitate to ask because the photos are more important than the dress.

I fully intend to trop around in the grass, sand, rocks, ocean with my dress!

I don't mind getting it dirty that way. However, if someone spilled a drink on my dress, I would smile on the outside, but be FUMING on the inside!

Also, I was thinking about this the other day, for some reason I'm really attached to my veil.... and was thinking about not using it for out TTD because I didn't want it to get ruined. FI was like "who cares! that was the cheap part, wear it!"

At first I was going to say that I would do anything for a good picture, but after thinking about it for a minute I'd say I will do anything for a good picture after the ceremony. I'd like to stay clean for that part (if the bottom gets dirty tho oh well)... as for the rest of the day... I'll roll around in a mud puddle if Sol asks me to! And for the TTD I'll climb a tree, jump in the water, roll in the sand... whatever will get the best pics. I can have that dress cleaned- I can't afford to bring Sol home with me to have her take new pictures cuz I was a dud the first time. bride.gif

I don't care if my dress gets messy we want to have fun picts. My mom bought my dress so I don't want it completely destroyed as she spent really good hard earned money on it. We plan on making a baptismal dress out of it so it will eventually be cut up.

I was a go with the flow kind of bride. I didn't even realize that my dress was dirty until I took it off but it was only dirty on the bottom. I think I had some drinks spilled on me (could have been my own) but they were clear in color so it didn't matter. I might not have liked a red wine stain too much but what can you do! wink.gif Plus the air conditioning wasn't working well in the ballroom so you can imagine what a sweaty mess I was. It was all good though. I didn't care at all. Then when we did our TTD, my dress actually was cleaner afterwards. I will do just about anything for a great candid shot!!
