in NC we didn't have to do rings. that's a weird rule. not everyone gets a wedding ring. but, your right it would be hard to just get one out of a vending machine or something like that.

We signed a "license" at the wedding in front of everyone but honestly for my "back home" weddings I can't think of one person that signed the license in front of everyone.

As for the rings and acting married- we didn't do that till our wedding day. Wasn't that hard. wink.gif

To address the guilt over making people feel jipped- People travel to "DW" for vow renewals. We have people on this forum doing the same thing. Granted, I don't think the turn out is quite as big, but I'm sure the people going are going because they love the couple and want to share in celebrating the union. How's that any different than what we are all doing?

We didn't tell anyone except my parents and sister that we were married. As far as I'm concern, it's not really their business when we made it "legal." Weddings are about celebrating the joining of two people and love. Not whether or not your particular state/country will recognize that commitment. Just my two cents. :)

We don't plan on telling anyone about our legal church wedding in the states either. Actually will be a double ceremony at my friend's church - they're renewing their vows along with us. I'm more or less having it in a church for my dad and to be recognized by God, but don't plan on making any sort of announcements about the legal church ceremony. Nobody's business. My friend won't be coming to Mexico for the wedding, but we wanted to do something together. She's also the only person to step up to throw me a shower because I am not having a wedding party.

What's more special is that we decided to do it on her father's birthday, 9/26. He's passed away and she always wanted to do something special in remembrance. The four of us will go to church, get married and go out for dinner. I do plan to wear my TTD for the ceremony at the church and to dinner.

Great thread girls. I already slipped and asked advice from a couple of girlfriends. One was kind of a brat about it. Why go all the way to Mexico if you get married before... Errr!!! I'm not sure what I am going to tell people yet. Lots of good advice tho!!
