I was thinking about taking alli too, but am scared.

I decided that on monday I'm starting the sacred heart diet because a big loss is what I need to remotivate myself. Lately I've been so stuck on back and forth between the same few pounds that I can't stay motivated, so if I do the sacred heart thing for a week or two I think that will get me remotivated.

at least I hope so...

OMG!!!I am sitting in my office cracking up. The girls are all looking at me like I'm crazy.

I have bought the Alli but haven't started it. My BM and I were going together. But now I'm scared. I'm in outside sales and that is not something I want to have happen to me on a call. Bad news.

I've taken it before but have never been consistent with it. boo!

Anyway..I can tell you I took it for about 4 weeks straight and had no problems with it. None.

The key is to make sure you don't eat more than 15 grams of fat per meal.

From what I've read, your boss probably had a little too much fat to eat and as a result had a "treatment effect". THAT'S WHAT ALLI CALLS THEM!

I was so terrified of having a "treatment effect" I made 100% sure I didn't eat more than the fat alloted.

So, use it! U will lose it... cuz you'll eat so healthy from fear of pooping in your pants.

I wanted to try it too but I had heard this exact same thing happening. I'm sort of scarred to try it. I def do not want to have an accident in my pants!!!

I read a lot of posts on different forums about alli and it seems to be consistent that as long as you follow the 15 g of fat per meal rule, you are fine, its when you eat something you shouldn't that you have the problem. Also, I read that if you plan to eat a meal that you know is bad, don't take the pill with that meal. although that's sort of defeating the purpose of being on a diet, lol!

i think all the other girls are accurate from what i have heard - if you take it, you basically have to do super low cal, low fat - which honestly you don't need the pills in your system if you do that - b/c you will lose weight no matter what.

but if you need that 'placebo' effect then go for it HOWEVER if either of you shit your pants, i fully expect to hear the details smile72.gif
omg LOL - alyssa, if i shit myself, you will be the first to know with a phone call!!!!

Whatever you do don't take a pill before our next meet-up...you have to make sure you can eat naughty stuff!
jamy, the only reason i am going to take alli is because right now i cannot get my dress zipped! smile41.gif otherwise i would have no problem with doing it the hard way!

I was thinking of trying this too. I actually just researched it a week ago. This is what the pill is all about:

Orlistat (marketed under the trade name Xenical by Roche; or over-the-counter as alli[2] by GlaxoSmithKline (pronounced like the English word "ally")—also known as tetrahydrolipstatin—is a drug designed to treat obesity.[3] Its primary function is preventing the absorption of fats from the human diet, thereby reducing caloric intake. It is intended for use in conjunction with a physician-supervised reduced-calorie diet.

Orlistat is the saturated derivative of lipstatin—a potent natural inhibitor of pancreatic lipases isolated from the bacterium Streptomyces toxytricini.[4] However, due to simplicity and stability, orlistat rather than lipstatin was developed into an anti-obesity drug.

Orlistat works by inhibiting pancreatic lipase, an enzyme that breaks down triglycerides in the intestine. Without this enzyme, triglycerides from the diet are prevented from being hydrolyzed into absorbable free fatty acids and are excreted undigested. Only trace amounts of orlistat are absorbed systemically; the primary effect is local lipase inhibition within the GI tract after an oral dose. The primary route of elimination is through the feces.

At the standard prescription dose of 120 mg three times daily before meals, orlistat prevents approximately 30% of dietary fat from being absorbed,[6] and about 25% at the standard over-the-counter dose of 60 mg.[7][8] Higher doses do not produce more potent effects.[9]

---------------------------------------------------------------------

The reason why you poop so much is b/c it contains that Orilstat which is like that ingredient they were putting in those chips remember? The ones that gave people bad cramps and made them run to the bathroom. So that is why so many people have leakage. If you eat healthy anyway you will lose weight. But the reason why this is always raved about is b/c even though your only eating 15 grams of fat, half of those grams are being blocked by the alli pill. So its really like you only ate half of that. So even if you didn't take Alli and ate healthy, you still wouldn't be getting the benefit of half the calories. That's what makes it so "great".

I didn't know that is how it works. Maybe I will check into this afterall. I still have a few months before our wedding but like many of us on here I just have not found the time to work out.
