I was soooo happy that I brought like 5 pairs of flip flops..I would also recommend bringing a pair or two that aren't thong because many of us on the trip got blisters between our toes from the humidity.

Scissors were a huge help!

Totally used the ipod docking station every day!

Nail polish remover was a must!

Bring at least two bottles of sunscreen! One is never enough. I remembered this from my last trip down south and we still needed to buy an expensive bottle from the gift shop on the resort!

pens and/or sharpies are a great idea too. You spend all this time planning and organizing before you leave...you want to stay organized while you're there!

If I think of anything else I'll add...again, this was such a great thread to read the night before I left!
Nail polish remover is DEFINITELY a must! I forgot that and i really needed it. I also remembered to bring two kinds of combs, one a rat tail comb for making parts and lifting sections of hair. I remembered plenty of cotton rounds for taking off make-up, etc. Thanks to this thread and others like it I think I remembered pretty much everything that I needed!

earrings! i totally forgot mine. didn't even have an everyday pair in my ears, and ended up borrowing some from my mom on wedding day. don't know how i missed this!

a funnel for our sand ceremony! our vases had small openings, and we had to scramble on wedding day to make a cone funnel out of some extra cardstock.

more bathing suits. i was so intent on not getting tan lines that i had 2 bandeau swimsuits that i had to alternate between all week (we arrived on saturday, wedding wasn't until thursday, and my dress was strapless). they were always still a bit damp when i put them on. yuck. (and i second LOTS of sunscreen. we went thru one whole spray can in about a day and a half!)

this one will sound funny, but desitin, or some other kind of diaper-rash kind of ointment, LOL! the day everyone decided to take a long walk into town i was wearing a dress (oh how i wish i had shorts on!) and it was at least 95 degrees out ... the combination of inner thigh "chub-rub" and sweat resulted in some seriously painful chafing, which was hard to recover from when you're almost always wet or sweaty in mexico! obviously i needed to get over it quickly or nookie would have been near impossible (not to mention it didn't look particularly attractive). i used a combo of triple antibiotic ointment and baby powder to get rid of it before wedding day!

LOL mummergirl you crack me up... the things you don't think about right? earrings and capris lol... Hank and I walked around our huge resort last time we visted and I wore a dress, and I was sweaty and gross, and the same thing happened (cause my thighs are SUPER thin lol).... definitely pack capris or shorts of some kind for long walking. Just these random things you don't even think of!!

Thanks for this great list- I am definitely taking some notes.

Also for things to pack- larger zip lock bags for bottles in case they spill (and for wet stuff) & extra grocery bags (for dirty stuff). I also make sure to pack a travel alarm clock, just in case.

I wish I had taken :

- CDs for the car. We had only one CD, that was intennded or the video of the wedding. Granted, we had packed our docking station (for the room) so we did not think of CDs... but for the car it would have been a must (we drove a lot, to Tulum, Ek Balam, Cancun several times, etc)

- Tape ! To re-pack all the fragile items. I had the bubble wrap and the scissors, but did not think of the tape. Well, actually I thought about it but left it on the counter...

- Biafine. This is a special cream sold over the counter in France for burns (all types, including sunburnt). So much better than any sold in the US sad.gif

- a road map of the region. Did not find one there (curious, he ?)

I'm so glad I did pack :

- my own pharmacy supplies. I had a beginning of UTI and was so glad to have my D-Mannose with me ! DH also got struck by Moctezuma...

- my hand sanitizer. Did not know I would not find any in Playa due to the flu...

- scissors, sewing kit, shout wipes, nail polish remover, 4 bathing suits, 8 pairs of flip flops and sandals - I had all this and used it all

- sneakers ! So useful for climbing ruins

- water shoes ! great for the cenotes and the cenote park ! It was a last minute purchase that i did not regret

- a pashmina. It was so windy at night. I used it every day.

I really did not need :

- a lot of the dresses / more dressy clothes. We did not go out so much or it was low key

i'm so glad it's not just me with the chub rub chafing! just to clarify, i had packed plenty of capris/shorts, i just didn't think to go back to the room to change before the walk. everyone was like, "we're going now, wanna come?" and i just went. i would actually say that i packed way too many clothes and shoes. pretty much all i ever wore were bathing suits, sundresses, and flip flops. don't over pack!
