Bringing your fiance dress shopping?

Recommended Posts

I say no way. It's such a special moment when you walk down the aisle towards him that I wouldn't want to ruin that surprise. I also didn't have BM's close, but took 2 work friends with me. It was still fun, and they were people whose opinions I valued.

On a side note, be careful how detailed you get if you ask him opinions before you go shopping. It turned out that exactly the type of dress that he was saying he didn't like (sheath style or trumpet style) actually looks really good on me, but I still steered away for that reason. I probably would have bought a different dress if it wasn't for how adamant he was about not liking that style. Afterwards, I told him that I avoided some dresses because of his opinion and he was like "I told you I didn't want to tell you because I knew this would happen!". Point taken...

Don't bring him with you. Tim and I do everything together, but I really want to surprise him with my dress. You should take a co-worker (like one of the other girls mention). I think the suspense it nice when he is totally clueless as to what you are going to wear that day. It makes it special.

I have to say that I agree with the other girls...keep the dress as a surprise. It's super hard not to show him 'cause you're so excited and stuff. I was totally like that - I finally had to take the dress to my mom's house just so I wouldn't take it out while he was home and everything.

Also, I don't know if all guys are like this but mine really wanted to BE surprised and didn't even want me to talk about it around him. And I'm glad he was like that...it was amazing seeing the look on his face when I walked down the aisle that day. Definitely one of the best parts of the day! smile159.gif

Hmmm, I probably wont. I dont know I feel like I maybe I couldnt concentrate if Ryan was there for some reason. The dress doesnt have to be a total surprise though. Ryan really wants us to get ready together before the ceremony, I havent decided on that one yet though.

My bridesmaids have instructed me to take pictures and email them since they are far from me, so I will (sort of) have their help. I'm just such a sap blush2.gif My fiance and I do everything together so my instinct is to involve him in this.

You've given me something to think about, maybe I should go it alone and keep him in suspense until June?
I'm in Hollywood too if you want someone to go with you! In fact my FI is out of town this weekend so if you want to go on Saturday I'll totally help! Either way what is your budget - I can at least recommend some places!

Okay ladies, you've convinced me. It will remain a surprise until the wedding and I am cool with that. And you're right, other people's opinions do get in the way sometimes!! I have been showing him pics of what I like too, so at most he may know it is one of 5 dresses, but will not know for sure until that day.

gkashmira, thanks for your offer. After discussing this with my MOH she will be flying to L.A. next week to help me get it together. But that is sooooo sweet of you to offer. Maybe we should get together sometime anyway.

I want to keep the dress simple and inexpensive, but not too casual. I want it to look like a wedding dress, not just a party dress. I would prefer to keep it at or under $1000 which seems low for a wedding dress, but I have found several destination dresses by Mon Cheri that I like, and they fall within that range. I think if the wedding was indoors I would go all out, but I'll be barefoot in the sand so I want to keep it beachy and fun.

Thanks everyone!!!! You all rock!!!

I am having the same issue and have decided not to include my FI on this one but it is hard not to have anyone elses opinion. I also want to keep my price down under $1000 and went to the group usa store (i posted info about it on another post) and really liked some of the dresses there and the most expencive was like 650. I am thinking about going and then posting pictures for you ladies to vote on that way I am not alone in this big choice!smile41.gif

I have gone and tried dresses on by myself most times and a couple times with our daughter. I liked going by myself because I knew right away if I liked the dress and I didn't have to listen to anyones opinions right away, I was able to make some of the decisions on my own. Now I've narrowed it down and will bring my mom & sister to check them out. I wanted to stay under $1000 too, and I thought I was going to be able to do it too, until the last time I went and my two favorite dresses were $1000 & $1500. FI says don't worry about what it costs, but I feel guilty spending that much money on a dress that I'm going to where for a few hours.

That's how I preferred to do it too - narrow it down by myself, then bring in the reinforcements. That way you KNOW the one you end up with will be because YOU like it, not someone else's choice.

Oh, and as for justifying the cost, you could always wear the dress at breakfast or something like Natasha does! lol - I just LOVE that she does that!
