Honeymoon-ing in Jamaica...

Recommended Posts

Misha... definately interested in AI, as that's obviously the best way to go, money-wise. I'm thinking that Rock Hse and the Caves would be too quiet... ?

Rockhouse and The Caves and the others I mentioned definetly fit the modern, chic requirement as does Idle Awhile but as for All Inclusive.....hmmmmm.......

We stayed at the Caves for a few nights during our honeymoon... its AI, beautiful, very romantic, extremely peaceful but it is a bit secluded (for us, that was a good thing). That being said, you can definitely leave the resort and easily find some action. The Rockhouse is definitely bigger, and its bar/restaurant is open to the public and gets a bit of a crowd, but not AI. If you are looking for something with a club, etc, the Negril cliffs just may not be your thing.

We also stayed at Sunset at the Palms, which was beautiful, few kids, AI, but the bed was actually REALLY hard - to the point of being uncomfortable. I don't know if that was just our room, but I thought I'd put it out there. They do have crazy bathrooms with 2-person multijet showers, which was pretty cool :) The food at the beach and buffet were good, the restaurant wasn't. The staff was friendly, fun, and very helpful.

We also stayed at Jakes in Treasure Beach, and got married at Coral Cove in Little Bay. They are both quiet, secluded locales. If you want more info on them, let me know.

For our honeymoon we are staying at Couples Negril and I highly recommend it! We avacationed at both the Negril and Ocho Couples a few years ago and the Negril property was amazing! The service was excellent and the food was amazing. The beaches in Negril are breathtaking. We are getting married at RIU Ocho Rios, but then we are taking a shuttle iver to Negril. It's going to be a long trip over, but we figured it was worth it and will break up our trip a bit. Good luck with your planning!!!

We choose our resort specifically because it is where we also want to honeymoon and we don't want to move after the wedding.

We choose Royal Plantation because we found they have great food, excellent service (You don't even have to get up to get a drink on the beach, you just wave a flag and your beach butler will bring it to you), and a quiet romantic atmosphere. The whole resort only has 76 rooms. It was also rated as one of the best AI in the Caribbean by trip advisor.

The downside is that there is not much of a nightlife, I think they have bands nightly but no club that I am aware of. But since it's owned by Sandals you can go next door to Sandals Grande if you want to change up the scenery.

Also, my OB just got home from Jamaica a few weeks ago and her and her family stayed at the Ritz in MoBay and she said it was so amazing that they didn't leave their resort once.

Hope that info helps a bit.

The nightlife at the Couples resort was pretty good, but not as action packed as other resorts we've been to. That didn't bother us too much because we were looking for something more romantic. I did split a week up at two properties though, so we probably missed out on a lot of the events being that we were only at each place for a couple of days. From what my travel agent told me, Couples Negril has the best nightlife out of the Couples resorts. Sans Souci and Swept Away are supposedly pretty quiet at night.

I wouldn't say that I'm laid-back, exactly (lol) but am looking for somewhere modern, chic, with stuff going on, good food and at a reasonable cost! (as I'm sure everyone is looking for! lol)
Here is a reasonably priced villa that Everton and I are renting next summer with the kids, so we can visit with Everton's family and introduce Liam and Bria to their fathers homeland.

Discovery Bay Real Estate Rental Jamaica - House

We are going to JA in August for our honeymoon and we are torn between three resorts right now, Iberostar rose hall in Mo bay for location purposes, the Gran Bahia principe in Runaway bay, it looks pretty, or the brand new not even open yet Gran Palladium Negril in Lucea near Negril, for the price factor, the suite's and the sunsets. We are also staying for a nite in Mandeville the heart of JA at the Mandeville hotel to attend a family wedding and meet Everton's family who live there, it should be interesting being off the beaten path.

I stayed at the Jamaican Grand in O.R last time I was in Jamaica, and loved it and it was walking distance (5 min) to everything, the market, bars,
restauraunts, it was a blast.

let me know what you choose I am curious

We got married at Riu and honeymooned at Couples San Souci. It was a perfect mix. Riu was large and loud and busy and Couples was the opposite. We often felt like we had the entire Couples resort to ourselves......and there was plenty to do. All of their excursions are included in the price. Nightlife was okay. They had different bands perform, Karyoke, newlywed games, and a Formal Gala night. They also had a FREE shuttle to take you over to Margaritaville at 11:00pm on certain nights. I highly recommend couples for your honeymoon!
