Wedding Gowns - You VS Model

Recommended Posts

I'm only 5'4" so it will definitely work for you.  I went for my alterations last week and took off the bottom 2 tiers - removing one was still too long.  Removing the 2 is a little on the short side, but I figured what the hell - fiance will be happy :)  I'm curious to see how it looks after its done - going back 5/31.

What a great thread! I love looking at the differences.  I think they all look better on real brides, rather then modesl!  Can't wait to post mine!

Okay Starrysim... I have to ask... HOW ON EARTH did you convince the people in the stores to let you take soooooo many pics without buying?? I've been shopping in both the UK and Canada and NO WAY are you allowed to take a picture unless you buy.... I mean it's a pretty ridiculous rule they have as all the photos are online anyway so if you really want to copy the dress and make it yourself you still can...

Just curious is all :)

Oooo and I bought a dress a couple days ago so I will definitely be adding my pics to this great thread

So glad I found this thread! So much fun! I think everyone looks way better in their dresses than in the stock pics, the models NEVER look happy - it's supposed to be your wedding day, SMILE for goodness sake!!! cheesy.gif haha

So here is the dress I bough 2 days ago... eeekk!! Hence the reason I was allowed to take pics - Any other brides in the UK or Canada not allowed to take pics unless you buy?? Anyhoo - bought off the rack and is a couple sizes too big but once is taken up and in a bit will be perfect!!! Yipppeee

Beautiful dress!!  I was allowed to take as many pictures as I wanted to of any dresses I wanted to and I live in Canada.  Maybe its just certain stores policies to not allow pictures.

Lots of places let you take pictures.  Bridal & Beyond is totally fine with it, as is The Dressroom downtown (not Becker's though).  A few places didn't let me take pics AT ALL (Bea Shawn in Brampton, Becker's downtown, and Mona Richie in Vaughan), and some said ok once I asked, even though it wasn't their policy (Felichia's and Bella's Bridal).  I pretty much REFUSED to consider a dress if they didn't let me take pictures of it.  For example, the Ella 5459 was a serious contender while I was trying it on, and once I saw the pics, I realized it was so so so terrible (this was actually at Bea Shawn, my friend snuck in some pics with her cellphone, because they were very inflexible. I actually HATE that place, they totally messed up my bridesmaid dress order for my friend's wedding, and overall they have terrible service).  I also really liked a Jai Bridal dress at Mona Richie, but I didn't buy it because they didn't let me take pics, and I had pics of two other dresses that I really loved.  So once it came time to choose between the 3, how could I choose the one that I couldn't see at home?  IMO it's incredibly important to take some pics in order to view the dress more objectively, and to be able to think about it once you're at home.  No wonder so many brides end up with dress regret - I know I would have, if I wasn't able to make a decision on my own time, with my own pics on my computer.  Sorry for the rant, I just feel so strongly about this :)

Hey starrysim,

I couldn't agree with you more. Taking photos of you in the dress is absolutely necessary! I also found that the stores that were the most adamant about not allowing photos, kind of tended to have the crappiest service - treating me more like a number, less like a bride making one of the most important clothing purchase decisions ever! :)

This thread is so much fun! Even though my wedding day has passed (although I do have an at home reception at the end of June) I thought I'd add in some pics of the rejects and the dress I finally decided on the AngelinaFaccenda1201 - the one at the end.
