Should I have a MARIACHI BAND or a TRIO?

I ended up going with a trio, because of the size of my group. I thought a mariachi band might be a little overwhelming for only 17 guests. They are going to play soft romantic music for the ceremony and upbeat music for the cocktail hour.

Right now I'm just kinda flying by the seat of my pants on this one! It usually takes them about a week to get back to me when I email them, and it's been almost a week so we'll see. I just wanted to know if they have a song list and if I can choose what they play.

If I can choose, cool. If not, I'm sure it will be just fine. This is one thing I'm just not going to stress about too much.

Do you guys think I should worry about music if we only have 6-10 people going? One of Cain's friends got a DUI and might not be able to go now, and his cousin said he might not be able to get off work, but would fly there for after the wedding) so we may now only end up with 6 at the wedding.

Jeez Tammy! What the heckhuh.gif I think you are already having budget issues, so don't even get into this!!

Sarah, I'm also flying by the seat of my pants on the music thing. As you know, we hired a "Mariachi Trio". I've not given them any specific songs, just asked that they play soft, low key music pre-ceremony & for the processional. Then I want them to break into full mariachi mode when we walk down the aisle after the ceremony to get the party started! I figure they've done enough weddings that they "get it"...let you know soon!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea, I am going to steal it. i am hoping that i am ok to say "play appropriate music" for the ceremony w/o having to pick songs. unless they can give me some sample of what they play, then i can pick. but i am totally going to steal that idea of having them kick it into their festive mode for the recessional!!! i love it!

I agree with Christa, Tammy- you definitely don't need something else to add to your stress! Skip it...

Christa, I was doing the same thing with my Marachi Trio- they said they can do romantic music for the beginning of the ceremony, then I said for the recessional and cocktail hour I want loud Msxico party music! But then I got it into my head I needed more control over the situation (why must I continuously do this to myself?) and emailed them to ask if they had a song list. You're right though, they do this all the time- I should just trust them to play their own thing and stay out of it!
