Video or No

hi-

 

i need some advise, my WC has given us prices for photographer/video... but the video i think is only for the church ceremony.

 

i guess this question is more for the already married.... how important is a video.. does anyone ever care to watch these after the 1st yr you get married? Wouldnt a good friend with a home video camera be enough?

But...my uncle did mine! lol

 

Now, if I had something like my friend Josh does, that would be a different story. Check out his videos!

I was married before and had the wedding put on a video. To be honest I watched it like 2 times. With that said however since your having a DW more people "might" request to see it.

as a photographer i have to say, id be careful with this. friends with video cameras are some of the worst offenders of getting in the photographers way and not understanding how to work together. they arent professionals and often just arent aware.

Hmmm, I'm not sure how I feel. I know its not in our budget and its not a priority for us. Wed rather the extra money go towards a better photographer but...A few brides on this forum that ended up getting their wedding taped absolutly love it and stressed that it was definitly a must have on their list.

Agree with Tammy - I had one for my first wedding and didn't watch it much. But at the same time - it was nice to have if you ever DID want to watch it. And another good point - w/a DW some people may not be able to make it and it would be fun for them to watch the video. And as teh bride, you miss a lot of the beginning of the ceremony since you're hiding! You miss a lot of the processional - so if you want to see that, it might be nice to have.

right.. thats what i was thinking, but is that something that cant be accomplished with a friend doing it... Is it worth spending the extra $.. i have to ask my planner, but it seems kind of crazy to pay and only have the ceremony, and pay extra for the reception time..

and what i just thought of it would have to be coverted from the european format to be viewed on american dvd players!! i think i just talked myself out of it!

We may be in the minority, but my husband and I actually have watched our video quite a few times. Sometimes just for fun, sometimes on our anniversary, etc. We had the videographer edit it, and he did a pretty good job, but we also got the raw footage so we could do what we want with it. (Husband does work with film and video.)

 

Most people don't regret getting the video, but some do regret NOT getting one. As for having a family member shoot it, that's usually not a great idea, b/c it's often a lower quality - most family members just don't have the special equipment that professionals do. Sound and lighting is often an issue with the smaller digital video cameras that most people have - and yes, good equipment makes a huge difference. And then of course, there's often the famous "Dizzy-Cam" portion of the video, when a non-professional shoots an event! You can certainly have a family member film it if you decide against a professional, just know that it probably won't be nearly as nice.

 

You might also consider just hiring someone to get the raw footage, and you can have it edited later on. That's usually way less expensive, b/c editing takes far longer than shooting the actual footage. Most people would be surprised at how much time goes into a simple edited montage.

 

Really, it is a personal decision. I love our wedding photos, but I am also really glad we got the video - and I was on the fence about it before the wedding. We don't watch the receptionportion all that much - except for the first dance - but we sometimes re-watch the ceremony. (That was honestly the best part of the whole day!) I always tell people, if you think you might want one, and you have the budget for it, then do it!
