sswed13, we went on Amazon to find a frame that we liked.  Here is a picture of what we bought (not our actual frame as I am having difficulty finding photos of our ceremony with us using it)

 

 

It comes with the frame, the vases and we had to buy the sand.  We went to Michael's, used a coupon and got the sand there.

We brought biodegradable sky lanterns and they had changed their policy in January of this year - one month prior to our wedding.  It had nothing to do with them being biodegradable, rather the fire hazard as they had a wedding where the lanterns went inland rather than out to sea.  No more sky lanterns after that.  We were very bummed and now have 25 sky lanterns sitting amongst the other wedding things that seemed so important but never got used.  I guess the lesson for me was to really ask myself if the item was a necessary and integral part of our wedding that would affect the enjoyment, pictures, and the overall day.  I realized that the most important parts to our wedding were us, our family and friends and just enjoying the time together.

Barcelo recently changed their minimum nights to stay to 3 nights. My TA told me about a week ago in went into effect.
I also wanted to do the sky lanterns and my WC emailed me back that I could not do them pretty bummed about it!
I would definitely sell them if you could find someone who is interested.

I have seen many questions about the menus.  I verified that you can choose your menu but also make some exceptions.  For us, we had guests who were vegetarians and others that had shellfish allergies.  They will make special menu items for those guests without extra charge.  You just need to tell them how many for each special diet.

Hello ladies! Hope everyone is doing great!!! I'm getting married at Barcelo Maya Palce on April 27, 2013 and I can't wait! I have a few questions though, how can I take my dress on the plane?!? Will they let me put it in the closet? Thinking about it stresses me out :/ Also, I don't know what to do about party favors...what will I be able to take on the plane? I was thinking about beach bags filled with sunblock, chapstick, mini maracas, koozies..stuff like that. Will that be a pain and cause problems boarding the plane?

Can someone help me with my timeline for the wedding? As of now my ceremony starts at 5:00pm and reception starting at 7:00pm. We do not plan to add extra time and will continue the party elsewhere. How long would you say dinner takes? I know there are several different ways that you can organize the reception based on your preference...just looking for ideas!

I haven't booked my date yet, we're waiting on flight times to come out, but I have been reviewing the packages. We're looking to get married the last week of October or first week of November 2013; lots of time I know! 

 

We don't know exactly how many people we will be having but I guestimate 40 or so. I really want the reception on the beach and after reading through everyone's very helpful posts, I realize they won't let us substitute the location to the beach but keep the Mint Breeze package, which is unfortunate because I don't need my hair or make done because I have bridesmaids that do both as a profession, but i'm very set on having a beach reception, I don't wanna go all the way to Mexico just to get married in a banquet room

 

So my question is, what exactly does the package include? Solely what is listed?

For example:

Do the chairs come with sashes? Or extra?

Do we get some form of basic arch for the ceremony? or nothing unless we pay extra?

 

We don't want to go crazy with extras, as we're trying to keep the cost low, but i'd like to get a grasp on what exactly i'm getting with the packages. 

 

Also is anyone thinking of bringing an ipod full of music and having just a sound system brought in? or a speaker to hook to an iPod dock? Having a DJ isn't really a big deal to us, we'll just continue the evening at the Disco!

I faced the same dilemma! Ended up going with the Mint Breeze package though because we will have about 50 people and can't afford it.

 

The chairs do come with sashes/bows (certain colors). Quoting from my WC "wedding package includes: chairs, white cover chairs, bows (white, cream, green, yellow, orange, blue, dark blue, hot pink, red and gold) tables and long table cloths". 

 

There is one centerpiece included in the package that is used at the ceremony and reception. 

 

The arch with flowers or huppa are extra (around $280 for arch, around $400 for huppa). I thought these prices were outrageous and have seen pictures of the ceremony without and it was still beautiful! And remember your backdrop is always the ocean if you are having a beach wedding .

 

I am not going with a DJ and based on reading through this forum all of the brides that also went without didn't regret it and liked being able to choose their own music. They include the sound system with IPod hookup and mic. I have started making a playlist and found an app called wedding DJ that is awesome! It organizes all your songs by section, like "recessional, first dance, etc" and fades the music in and out.
