Barcelo recently changed their minimum nights to stay to 3 nights. My TA told me about a week ago in went into effect. I also wanted to do the sky lanterns and my WC emailed me back that I could not do them :( pretty bummed about it! I would definitely sell them if you could find someone who is interested. Thank you for sharing the playa crawl info! I was looking to do something like that the first day we are there.

We were married in November and were able to use sky lanterns so long as they were bio degradable. I would specify the biodegradable part and see what they say.

Also, we booked our photographer for just one night. We were staying at the Palace but booked him into the Tropical to save money. When our WC asked about the photographer we said he was booked in (not a lie) but never specified how many nights. On the day of the wedding he had a wrist band for the resort and no questions were asked. We booked on Expedia and it cost us $190 for the night.

If you want a light up dance floor its $600 (the resort is like $1300 for the same floor) Once you sign a contract with him he has a huge music database and you can pick everything you want to hear on his site. He was only $100 deposit....You can add things like cold fireworks for $25 a piece and you can add props to give out to the guest to play with. Past brides have used him and they gave him a good review....

The photographer  I had originally hired Belen Luckie she was 1/2 the price of Ivan and works underneath him I thought she had a good profolio.....I signed a contract with her and for whatever reason she now can't make it. So Ivan is taking her spot (and they have yet to tell me I have to pay more....I signed a contract so I can't imagine them charging me more). I dealt with Ivan the entire time through my process of choosing my photographer and he has been great! I'm actually really excited that Belen can't make it!  Ivan and his wife will be staying at the resort (I booked the Beach for them, no need to pay the Palace prices)  The resort requires you to use there photographers or pay a $500 outside vendor fee....UNLESS your photographer is a guest of the resort! I found the info here on the website and I have found that since they raised their outside vendor prices to $500 most Brides so it this way.

I have used this site SEVERAL times when I ask my WC about things.....I will tell her I saw online that you did this in the past could you still do this? Also save all your emails print them out and bring them with you if for whatever reason they change their mind once you arrive you will have proof that they had agreed to it before. They change prices sometimes when they change their policies and you want to be able to prove their quoted price.

I did ask my WC yesterday about getting a room for 2 nights for the photographer and she said that the $500 fee would be waived. I also asked about the D.J bringing a generator that eliminate the $105 an hour electricity usage and she said yes so that has been confirmed. I really appreciate all the information that you have given me!!!!! A HUGE THANKS!!!! I have contacted Ivan about prices and I believe I am going to try to look for one more to compare packages. Also I am looking to maybe have a videographer.

We did on the Monday night ( we arrived Saturday, wedding Thursday).  It was a lot of fun! We had a "girls night" and all the girls that came surprised me and we went horseback riding on the beach, then we all went for supper at the French restaurant, and they got me a special cake, and the waiters came and sang a song to us (it's on facebook somewhere, so embarassing but fun!). After dinner (I think Dinner was at 9) we went to the Disco at the resort.  It was really fun to just all spend time together.

The boys did something similar, and went for the brazillian bbq, and we met them at the disco later on (though they got VIP and were upstairs, we didn't find them for quite a while).  We looked into playacrawl, but by the time we got everyone together and sorted out, it was just easier to stay at or near the resort.

Here is at the restaurant when I am being serenaded, and eating my special dessert.  It was a fun night.

The only extra thing I brought for the tables was the name cards, which had ready to go, and they tied them onto the wine glasses for me (as I thought the basic foldy ones would fly away, and I left this until the last minute, so I didn't have time to find cute holders).

I ordered the bouquets as well.

Honestly, I think this makes sense.  If they have 100 weddings a month, and half or even a third of those people had sky lanterns at say 30 lanterns a piece - that is a lot of trash.  Even though they are biodegradable, anyone who has composted knows that the biodegradable paper products don't instantly disappear.   I initially wanted them to, but then I was happy I didn't.

Here's our groomsmen and our dads. FI's dad decided at the last minute to wear shorts, his mom was furious. We didn't really care though:) I really liked my dad's shirt, it was festive!

Yea looks like ill have to pay the $500 fee :(. On the upside, I have been doing a lot of research and have found some photographers that offer packages that even with the $500 fee would only be a few hundred more and some even had another hour of photography! Has anyone used or heard anything about Juan Navarro or Blue Lens Caribe? They had better portfolios than barcelo experience but still affordable. I loved Claudia and Ivan (which all got good recommendations on here) but they were a little out of my budget:(.

I LOVE Juan Navarro's work and have booked him for our wedding at the Palace! He is great to work with so far over email and he is definitely affordable!

Okay a couple more questions:) I feel like I am constantly bothering you all!

-It looks like the menus are different for some packages. For those doing/did the mint package what would you suggest for food selections?

-For a symbolic (non-legal) ceremony did you chose a non-denominational minister or justice of the peace? Besides the obvious (religious) what is the difference? We would like to have a quick prayer but was worried with the minister we wouldn't be able to have our own vows or that it would not be in English. We want our ceremony pretty casual and short. Any thoughts?
