We had Carribbean, our guests LOVED it.  We were half an hour late because of photos, and the buffet was almost empty, and there was a fair amount of food.  It was nice, we had it on the palace balcony as the sun was going down, beautiful sunset, and was a nice time to mingle and such ( a little easier than sitting down at dinner).  For us it was worth it.  I know other brides just had a meeting point, and that worked well to (like the lobby bar etc.), it was nice having a spot just for us, our own bar, and music etc.

Here are some of the Pro and family shots from up there.

Just a friendly reminder to all the new brides looking - try giving the thread a search - I know it's long, but I know I've posted these pictures at least 3 times now. Most of the other questions (locations, flowers etc.) have been asked a million times, and there is a wealth of information on here!

Hello-

I am almost through the wedding spreadsheet with my WC at Barcelo Maya Palace Deluxe and I am wondering if even though I picked the Mint package and it states that the reception will be in a banquet room if anyone had any problem having it out by the beach? I would like it to be outside and not on the sand but close. Also did anyone have a DJ and if so were they good? and did they have them for longer than 2 hours? I am 8 months out and I trying to make sure that I have everything important taken care of.

The mint package has to be inside in a banquet room (The Strawberry package or higher can be outside).  I myself didn't want it on the beach and wanted an open aired grill and they made me upgrade and then once I did that no open aired grills were avaiable....So I'm by the pool now. Anyways.......I have read once that somebody had a big group (over 70) and the WC allowed them to pay extra per person to have it outside with the mint package, but that's NOT a regular thing that they do (I tried)...My wedding isn't till October and I got a D.J from an outside vendor,  Discomovil. He was cheaper than Barcelo's D.J and plays for 4 hours. Also if you were intrested in the light up dance floor its half the price of the resort. I found that other brides used this D.J and he has recieved good reviews. Correspondence with him is easy and fast which makes me feel good too. The only downside to using an Outside vendor is that Barcelo charges you for use of their electricity $100 an hour. But for $200 Discomovil will rent and bring a genertor which works out to be cheaper. I read that the Barcelo D.J plays dance music for 2 hours and the other hour is just background music while you eat supper. But both have gotten good reviews. Just to try to set your mind at ease, I think you are way ahead of the game. Lots of Brides don't get everything set till they get down there because its so hard to get a hold of some of the WC..(which is my case) Happy planning!!

Hello,

I have a question for everyone. We are getting married in October and I am trying to put together a scavenger hunt for my guests to get to know one another and to get some of the people moving that really don't like the beach and drinking thing. I have been to Barcelo in the past but I have hit a wall and can't think of anything else to put on my list: (please give me any extra ideas that come to mind)

1. a photo of an angel

2. Build a sandcastle

3. Pic of taking a shot with a stranger

4. Pic of Mexican Flag

5. Pic of Man in speedo (2 bonus points if you are in the picture with him)

6. A pic with a Mayan god

7. Pic of you on the water bike

I would like to come up with a bunch more things......I know Barcelo is busy and there are plenty of things to do but we thought this may be a fun thing to do maybe boys vs: girls!!!  We welcome all ideas!! Thanks!!!

Great idea!

What is a sand ceremony frame and where did you get yours?

These are lovely. I was wondering about the vase and mirror. $5/each from the hotel is great! Thanks for sharing

What is everyone doing for the recessional?  Are you having the guests toss flower petals?  blow bubbles?  I'm looking for ideas on this one.  I'm worried flower petals are going to be expensive, and I'm too nervous about customs to try to bring dried petals with me.

Also, I bought sky lanterns before I knew they weren't allowed at the resort.  We have been considering taking them with us anyway as a just in case, but I'm not sure I want to do that since they'll take up so much space in our luggage.  Should I just sell them?

We went with the Mexican (seems how we were in Mexico and all!). We didn't make it to the cocktail hour, but our guests absolutely raved about it!! There was something for everyone, even our 'picky' guests :) Everyone said the food at the cocktail and reception dinner was the best they had all week - and the food was VERY GOOD all week, we all ate very well lol.
