I am getting married on January 28, 2010 and was told my reception options were the Palmeris Grill or Captain Morgan's. Can anyone tell me the difference, other than that Captain Morgan's has a boat for a bar? I can't find any good pics of Captain Morgan's on any website.

We have a group of only 25 so I don't really need a huge space but still want it to be nice.

Is anyone having their reception right on the beach?

From what I remember from the site visit, the Palmeras and Tropical grills were very similar to each other in size, decoration, etc. The Palmeras is located at the Tropical while the Mariachi is located on the Colonial side.

I have included some youtube video links of some weddings that had their reception at the grills. The first two are at the palmeras (they're near the end of the video, though).

Here is the resort map in case you don't have it yet either.

Hope these help!

As far as the difference, The Coral Grill has nicer more modern decor, wood floor vs tile, nicer light fixtures, it's just newer...If you see the pics of the gazebo, to the left is that round topped building just off the Coral beach, that's the grill....
The story with the Coral grill keeps changing. At first it was available for anyone staying at the palace. Then it wasn't available because it was changed to an a la carte restaurant in the evenings. And now I'm hearing it's only available if it's a big group. It's a beautiful location, but very open so if you do have a small party, it would look a little weird. I saw a wedding (unfortunately I can't find the pictures for it anymore) that had their reception there and although it was nice, it looked REALLY empty. Also, the furtniture is nicer at the Coral grill, but because of the shape of the chairs, they are unable to put the chair covers on them, so they look really plain. Here is a 360 virtual tour of the Coral Grill.

I have a few pictures of Captain Morgan grill, but I've heard from others that it has recently been renovated. I haven't seen any pictures of it after that. I saw a wedding there while I was on my site visit, but our pictures didn't turn out too well because we had to take it from outside and it was really dark. Their reception looked good and they had to have had about 35 people. The one thing I always loved about the captain morgan grill is the outside patio they had which was our 2nd choice for the reception. I was told by Victoria that it was only reserved for people booked at the Caribe/Beach though which was too bad. I will post pictures of the grills on my next post.

I am having my reception on the Coral Beach. I know it's a bit of a risk in case it rains, but it looks so beautiful and was the reason we came down to Mexico to have our wedding there, so for us it was a #1 choice. The sand on the Coral Beach is nicely packed and not fluffy at all. I didn't find it hard to walk on at all, and I think it's even easy to walk on even without flat shoes. Also the location is only a few feet from the entrance to the Coral grill so it's not a far walk to get back inside if needed.

Typically the Renewel of Vows are for those already married and want to renew their vows. So they would expect you to choose a package other than the Renewel. Just like you, we are not having a legal ceremony, instead we are having a religous ceremony. We are getting married in May and our wedding package, Ocean Scents, has been confirmed.
Hope that helps!!

Hi, thanks for the info. I am planning my wedding at Barcelo for May 2010. My fiance and I are planning to do our legal documents here in Canada and have a symbolic wedding down at Barcelo. Did they give you a discount on the package if you don't need any legal documents done?
