We finally have our script done! (Good thing too, as we fly out on Wednesday!)

A good friend of mine (who I set up on a blind date with his now wife!) will be our officiant. He has written a few things to say that he wants to be a surprise for us, but here's the rest of the script:

Welcome – Written by Officiant (Jim)

Reading 1 - Corinthians chapter 13 verse 4-8 – Maria

Love is patient, love is kind
It does not envy, it does not boast
it is not proud, it is not rude
it is not self-seeking
it is not easily angered
it keeps no record of wrongs
Love does not delight in evil
but rejoices in the truth
it always protects, always trusts
always hopes, always perserveres
Love never fails

Sand Ceremony

"Anna and Erich, today you join your separate lives together. To symbolize this union and the importance of the individuals within the marriage, two separate colors of sand will be combined. Each one holds its own unique beauty, strength, and character. They can stand on their own and be whole, without need of anything else. However when these two are blended together they create an entirely new and extraordinarily more intricate entity. Each grain of sand brings to the mixture a lasting beauty that forever enriches the combination.

Please pour the sand into this common container to symbolize the union of your two lives.

Before you met, your lives were on different paths with different destinations. Love has brought you together and joined these separate paths into one. The sand in each individual jar represents your separate lives, separate families, separate sets of friends, and the different life journeys you once traveled.

By mixing these grains of sand, you are symbolically joining your once separate lives. As your two lives are combined, so are your friends and family joined, through you into one. And your once solitary lifeâ€s paths are also now one. All that was once separate will now be shared and in this sharing you both will find great comfort.

Reading 2 - Excerpt from Dr. Seuss – Oh the Places Youâ€ll Go – Daisy

Congratulations!
Today is your day.
Youâ€re off to Great Places!
Youâ€re off and away!
You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
Youâ€re on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the couple whoâ€ll decide where to go.

OH! THE PLACES YOUâ€LL GO!
Youâ€ll be on your way up!
Youâ€ll be seeing great sights!
Youâ€ll join the high fliers
who soar to great heights!
You wonâ€t lag behind, because youâ€ll have all the speed.
Youâ€ll pass the whole gang, and youâ€ll soon take the lead.
Wherever you fly youâ€ll be best of the best.
Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.
Except when you donâ€t.
Because sometimes, you wonâ€t.
Youâ€ll get mixed up of course,
as you already know.
Youâ€ll get mixed up
with so many strange birds as you go.
So be sure when you step.
Step with great care and great tact
and remember that Lifeâ€s a Great Balancing Act.
Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.
And never mix up your right foot with your left.
And will you succeed?
Yes! You will indeed!

Reading 3 – The Art of Marriage – Richard

"The Art Of Marriage"
by Wilferd A. Peterson (longer version)

Happiness in marriage is not something that just happens.
A good marriage must be created.
In the art of marriage the little things are the big things...

It is never being too old to hold hands.

It is remembering to say "I love you" at least once a day.

It is never going to sleep angry.

It is at no time taking the other for granted;
the courtship should not end with the honeymoon,
it should continue through all the years.

It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives.
It is standing together facing the world.

It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family.

It is doing things for each other, not in the attitude
of duty or sacrifice, but in the spirit of joy.

It is speaking words of appreciation
and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.

It is not looking for perfection in each other.
It is cultivating flexibility, patience,
understanding and a sense of humor.

It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.

It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow.

It is finding room for the things of the spirit.
It is a common search for the good and the beautiful.

It is establishing a relationship in which the independence is equal,
dependence is mutual and the obligation is reciprocal.

It is not only marrying the right partner, it is being the right partner.

It is discovering what marriage can be, at its best.

VOWS

I, Erich, choose you, Ania, to be my wife.
I will cherish our friendship and love you today, tomorrow, and forever.
I will be true and faithful to you in all of lifeâ€s circumstances as we face them together.
I will trust you, respect you, encourage you, and inspire you.
I promise to love you in good times and in bad, when life seems easy and when it seems hard, when our love is simple, and when it is an effort.
I will laugh with you in times of joy and comfort you in times of sorrow,
And always be by your side through our lifeâ€s journey
Before us lies an open road filled with adventure and love
and I choose to spend today and all of my tomorrows together with you.

I, Ania, choose you, Erich, to be my husband.

RINGS

<Jim asks Matt for the rings>

Officiant (Jim): I will ask you now to seal the vows which you have just made, by the giving and receiving of rings. Let us remember that the circle is the emblem of eternity and may your love and happiness be as unending as the rings which you exchange.

Officiant (Jim): Erich, please repeat after me-

This ring I give to you as a symbol of my love and devotion to you.
I pledge to you all that I am and all that I will ever be.
With this ring, I gladly marry you and join my life to yours.

Anna, if you accept, please say “I doâ€

Erich, if you accept, please say “I doâ€

And now we will bless this marriage with an Apache blessing:

Apache Blessing (Jim):

Now you will feel no rain, for each of you will be shelter for the other. Now you will feel no cold, for each of you will be warmth to the other. Now there will be no loneliness, for each of you will be companion to the other. Now you are two persons, but there is only one life before you. May beauty surround you both in the journey ahead and through all the years. May happiness be your companion and your days together be good and long upon the earth.

Erich & Anna, do you promise to love each other and honor the vows you have made?

Erich and Anna in unison: We do.

Then based on your vows of love and commitment, I pronounce you husband and wife.

You may kiss the groom!

Iâ€m pleased to present to you for the first time, Mr. and Mrs. Otto.
