It really depends on what you are looking for....I am planning on getting the free package because I am intending on bringing my own photographer and cake...so would be pointless paying for a wedding package....as these are included (and aren't negotiable as far as I know) with the packaged. I'll just pay for the add on's i want...like hairdresser, horse and carriage...etc

question....

we have a Superior wedding package. It includes the Photographer.

Since then we've decided to bring in a photographer. She's staying as a hotel guest, so it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm wondering how break the news to the onsite WC that we won't need their photographer??

Any advice??

I don't think they will mind....but I don't think they will give you a refund or offer an alternative to include in your package....thats what past MP brides have said on this forum...thats why I have decided to go with the free package..maybe your not too late to change to this? Maybe do a small calculation and try work out if it would be worth your while doing this....I just put all the items in the package on a spreadsheet with the costs...then had another column with the items i wanted....then done a comparison with prices...that when I worked out it would be alot cheaper to go with the free package with add ons.

Hope that helps a wee bit :)

It depends on how set in the way you are about your wedding. For the free flowers and cake that come with the packages you have very limited choices. If you dont like their choices, you cannot use the "price" of your free item towards a more expensive choice, you have to pay the full price and forgo the free item. If you want things to be easy, do the package and just pick from what they offer. If you want lots of choices, do the free package and add things, that way you'll end up with exactly what you want. Hope this helps. I bought the superior package and could not get the flowers and the cake I wanted for "free." I just gave in and used the things that were included and they turned out perfect and I couldn't be happier.

Greetings ladies!

I'm new to the BDW forum and I'm beginning to realize that my planning is not nearly as far along as I had thought.

We have our contract in for April 3, 2009 @ 6pm... which may be pushing it for my sunset pictures.

We're on a budget which actually inspired us to go for the destination wedding at the MP. We flirted with the idea of a complete overhaul of the plans because absolutely no one from my FH's side will be able to attend.... not even his mother or father. However, the more we price shopped for a local event, the expenses kept adding up and the stress was mounting. His family is definately not happy with the idea, however we will be having a big potluck reception party when we return so they can at least be included in that.

We've also recently submitted a request to change our free civil ceremony package to a free symbolic service and we will be making it legal back home at city hall. That way we can reduce the stress and added expense of translations, blood tests, etc, plus his parents and siblings can at least stand witness if they are unable to attend the big day.

I do have a question for anyone willing...

Understanding that there are multiple gazebos, do we have a choice?

After looking at the 360* tour from the MP website, I almost prefer the 'religious' gazebo (unsure of actual name). I'm more fond of pews than the chairs, the lack of the large archway, and I'm not crazy about the red carpeted aisle at all.

Rather than dragging on, I'll spare you guys. Thanks for your help!

Kindest Regards!

Hey Marie,

WELCOME to the thread! My wedding is also in April 2009, right after yours. My ceremony will start at 5pm. You can request to change the time... and you can also request a Gazebo of your preference once they assign you a wedding coordinator. Some people have been able to get their locations locked in way before the 3 months before the wedding date, I have tried that and so far no luck.

Anyway, there is a map of the resort on the palace website so you can see where all the gazebos are to get a better idea of which one you would like. The catholic one is the one next to a pond, it is supposed to be the nicest one per my conversation with the wedding people in Mexico. (note that the catholic gazebo entrance has spanish words right in front)

I have opted out of the gazebo for a beach wedding because I want to have my own set up that I like...

ALSO note that the red carpet can be removed from the gazebo, I have seen some pictures that show no red carpet (just the floor color). I called requesting a white one, and they told me I would have to bring my own. When I asked for the length they didn't know and never got back to me about it.

As far as people not being able to make the wedding, that is very normal for a destination wedding. My take on it is that similar to yours, I am on a budget and this is what worked out the best for me. I have had SEVERAL people complain about prices relating to the hotel and airfare, the truth is you can't please everyone and trying to will drive you crazy.

I also opted for the symbolic ceremony because I don't want the hassle of witnesses, blood drawn etc etc

Anyway, hope this helps!

Yea Rosie! We're kindred!

Thanks for the info :)

Unfortunately, someone has already snagged the 5pm time slot, but we'll see what we can work with. Maybe we can do our photos prior to the ceremony.

If the carpet is removable, we can just as well bring a fabric aisle runner in the design/color of choice.

I'm getting to be soo excited at this point. I know that I have the potential to get carried away with all of the stress and sweating the small stuff, thats why the MP will work out great. I don't think I would otherwise by able to afford a wedding coordinator and working out the logistics of set up and break down quite frankly scare me. I wanted to have a beautiful wedding that I could actually enjoy planning rather that making myself miserable over trivial details, plus we'll still be able to buy/build a house to hang the pictures in when its all over.

Hi Sara! Sorry it took me so long to get back to you...

I didn't really try to negotiate. I probably should have though!
I think you should try... just talk to Maria Torres.

Good luck,
